A car for a Yorkshireman!

Or how about just because we can and fancy a new one. Heck where do you think your secondhand cars come from if people didn't like buying new ones. But hey keep up the prejudices.
Exactly, I will change my car to suit my needs and desires. I'd still have my Mondeo ST TDCi now, but I was no longer doing the mileage to justify it, especially in the winter when the engine hadn't even reached operating temperature by the time I'd reached work. As for the other Mondeo I had that reached almost 270k miles, for the last few years of ownership, I will admit to letting oil changes becoming lapse and probably only getting changed at around 18 months instead of yearly.
I think for £4k id be looking at Japanese Motors as mechanically they tend to be bulletproof - if you are looking mileage Fords and Vauxhalls you are asking for trouble.
Pardon my French but that is utter crap.

Not in my experience - Ive had the misfortune in having to run Mondeos and Vectras and Astras when I as doing a lot of miles (admittedly some years ago) and without exception once they got above 70k they were useless- some didn't make it that far.

If you want reliability at higher mileages particularly when you don't know the previous history Japs are better.

Fully disagree, definitely not my experience.

I can think of only one common factor in all of that. ;)

Experiences are like @rseholes - everyone's got one but they're all different!

The only a******e is the one who thinks their opinion and experience is fact and must be the only version of the truth ;)
