This is a bit of artistic licence I think. It's a report on the way he created the picture rather than a journalistic report on tigers.

I suspect there was a warden with a rifle at the ready aswell as the trainer.

Tiger running at a piece of meat with a trainer standing by and the photographer 20 metres away. Not so brave if you ask me. 20 metres is a long way in these circumstances.

Whatever you guys say about the staging you have to admit it is a good shot.

Just like standing the other side of a fence at a motor racing circuit.

You add the speed a Tiger can run at with the 20 meter's and tell me you would do it, I mean how far can that big cat travel over 20 meter's at it's speed?

Well it would not be me, and the picture is something else.

I agree, by the time you realised he is running at you, he will have you in a superb wrestling hold and your kak will not have even have touched cloth.

Seems to me like a perfectly planned and executed photo! Get's a  from me. Thanks for sharing!

Actually, I too would like it without the zoom effect. Don't think it was needed

and famous for doing it badly! some of the best photoshop fails ive ever seen have been in the sun :)

that pic is great but i too think that the speed/zoom effect is a bit much, and detracts away from the tiger. i feel id get a better idea of its power and speed where i could see it running towards the camera but the background would be normal..

Agreed, there's too much processing gone on in that photo for me to take it seriously.

Anyone seen the video of the lions eating a tog. I bet he was still touching cloth even if there was a guy with a rifle.

ROTFL

you did notice it was in the Sun?? They are famous for photoshopping photos

And famous for bad grammar.

"Then the trainer would run passed me and I had to hope the tiger would keep following him and not come for me instead."

Paul

I don't get why its made even gutter tripe of the Sun, you have every chance of getting a tiger to run towards you at WHF or Whipsnade and get the same sort of shot - the biggest problem is waking them up long enough to do it. [and anyone can apply zoom blur]

But they got the spelling of "focused" right.

I'm impressed by the huge kahunas of the photographer to put himself in line with a prowling tiger to get the shot. 20m may seem like a long way to some but I bet a tiger can cover that in about 2 seconds if he'd decided to go for the photographer instead of the meat. You wouldn't catch me putting myself in that kind of position.

Haveing looked at Roger Hooper's website it looks like the photoshopping isn't his normal style so I don't know why he chose to do it on this image. It's very striking but I think it would look better without it.

it's set up...with a trainer...and a piece of meet...

but anyone who says that 20m is a huge distance between you and a fully grown hunting tiger....urrm....they are quite quick by the way!!!

I like the tiger but I hate the zoom effect, might be just my eyes or looking at it on a monitor, but so far every photo I've seen with this effect applied I end up with an actual headache.

Tiger
Effect
Standing 20m from a running tiger and hoping it goes for the little piece of meat rather than the big bit :cuckoo:

Basically, it's a sensationalist Sun article. The guy is being made out to be (or is making himself out to be) a lot braver than he is. It was a very controlled and safe situation. It isn't a bad photo (minus the awful Photoshop work) but someone is trying too hard to impress us rather than just letting the image speak for itself.

I think he is a lot braver than me!!!! but what a cracking shot

Even if it is aweful (and I can't see it because it won't load on my screen....) it has done its job.

You lot are talking about it. I'll start to worry the day people stop talking about me behind my back or rubbishing my pictures.
