A bit off topic - Photographers in Movies

I dont know why someone has not remade the film Blow up for the digital age, it had a very good plot line ( admitedly which drifted off a bit) however in the age of terrrorism , soy and the general paranoia which pervades society a remale would in my view be a winner.

Because they got it right first time - why remake a classic? Will it be as good as the original? Better?

I hate the whole idea of remakes - if you like the movie - watch the original...
Like the Manchurian Candidate - what was the point of that?
Or the latest 'Taking of Pelham 1-2-3'... the Walter Matthau/Robert Shaw version was excellent, so why remake it?
Does Hollywood really have no-one left who can come up with an original script?

I just watched Johnny Depp in 'Public Enemy' and was very disappointed - the whole thing was done so much better with Warren Oates in 'Dillinger'...

IMO the only remake worth the effort was Ben-Hur - the Charlton Heston movie was actually the third remake... first was a silent, second was in B&W...

Arguably as good as the origional, but bought up to date.
 
Julia Roberts in 'Closer' (Nichols, 2004) (who took the same photo over and over again with a medium format camera of Jude Law sat on a stool :thinking:)

Mark in 'Peeping Tom' (Powell, 1960) who took porn photographs for pocket money, was a camera man for his job, and videoed himself killing people as an experiment in psychology. Unfortunately it was over shadowed by Hitchcock's 'Psycho' of the same year, and you probably haven't heard of it.

And Arkady, the reason remakes exist is because it makes older films more accessible to a modern audience. It's all about money. A lot of people don't know that 'Public Enemies' (2009) and 'The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3' (2009) were actually remakes, and so turning a possibly outdated film into a more modern one allows modern audiences to see a film that otherwise they might never have seen. If a brilliant film is remade, it's rarely terrible. It might not be that great, and it might not be as good as the original, but there's not much in the recipe to let it fail.

LOL, is that your own opinion?

The remake of Gone in 60 seconds is infinitely better than the original, and "Reeves" is one of if not the highest paid actors on the planet, surely there is a reason for that?

Yeah, that is my own opinion. But I don't really understand why they are such high paid actors. Reeves was brilliant in the matrix films, and also his performance was fantastic in the recent remake of 'The Day The Earth Stood Still'. But that's because his performance required him to be no more than someone who has a serious lack of emotion.

Cage on the other hand plays one role perfectly, but that role doesn't necessarily always fit into every single film he is cast for.

And I was pretty sure the highest paid actor was Ray Romano. Wasn't it something silly like $1,000,000 for each episode of 'Everybody Loves Raymond'?
 
Ahh, well I meant film, I read it somewhere that he was highest paid film actor.
I also heard the cast of Friends got $1M per episode too, for the final series, I suppose it then comes down to how many episodes are made.

Born into Brothels had a showing on C4 a few years ago. I received sideways glances while I watched it, but there's no glamour about the environment it's filmed in.

Further to the comments by Arkady, foodpoison et al, C4 are good at showing the originals when a remake is released.
