A bit of over production

Least they aren't just dumped in rivers and up trees like the one in Sheffield...

Why are they bothering to repair bikes with so many replacements laying around?

I'm not surprised, but I'm also not surprised that people started these schemes in the first place.
My knowledge of China is limited to large cities, where old, rusty bikes are the standard form of transport for most working people. Bikes are everywhere, and frequently carry the whole family, plus the family dog and the family shopping - hundreds of them going along every road, and totally ignoring road signs, one way streets and everything else.

Violent crime is virtually zero in China, with a massive police presence and tough courts, but theft of things like bikes is endemic, which means that everything that can be moved is always locked up. Therefore, there will have been huge interest in bike sharing schemes.

Some unusual repairs being done to that freehub!

I wonder if there is a way for some of those bikes to make it to third world villages, where they would be cherished & make a real difference to peoples lives?

True. Although there are probably many area in China that are 'third world', it would be a good idea to pass on these bikes to even more needy areas.

Agreed, although it looks like there are enough to go around :)

I'm going to write to my MP, & some charities, to see if it's feasible.
