I’m a subscriber to nyt but only the news not the games. I do the Spelling Bee every day but as a non subscriber it cuts one off after you have some fraction of the possibles which suits me as it would take too long. Letter Boxed allows completion as do the 3 Sudoku levels - not sure if this is just for the “news” subscribers or for the hoi polloi!A 4 for me. I pondered long and hard on the end letter I should choose after my second attempt, and I went for the wrong one

They finally got to me and I have subscribed. It is quite fascinating to have access to some of the stats. I'm also now getting hooked on Spelling Bee... oh dear... another time waster.
Now you mention it, I've no idea what I've subscribed to! I thought when you subscribed to the paper, you got the games. Perhaps I haven't got access to the paper then. I'll head off to check.... it's costing me 50p a week for the first year.I’m a subscriber to nyt but only the news not the games. Edit: typos
You’ve done well then. I’ve been paying £2 monthly for the news for some years. I think they did try to make me pay more at one point and I told them I wasnt interested and the backed down. Now you mention it, I've no idea what I've subscribed to! edit - it seems I have access to both paper and games.
Yes, sorry to rub it in but it seems I get the cooking as well for the £2 a month - only for the first year. Could you log in with a different email and set up a new account and cancel that one? Would you lose historic stuff? (if that's important to you). I'm not sure if the offer is finished now, but I'm sure it will come along again. You’ve done well then. I see they have a 70% off offer on everything (includes cooking for instance) for I think £3 monthly (not sure if that’s before the 70%) whereas Games only sob would be the same £3 extra on my current sub.
I guess I could cancel and re-join but the problem is that I like the Spelling Bee a lot but looking at the previous day’s words a lot are not in my vocabulary or they are not ‘proper’ words. and I already spend too much time on it if it’s a hard one.
They offer me an “upgrade” to £0.60 a week (less for a year) so not quite your 50p.Yes, sorry to rub it in but it seems I get the cooking as well for the £2 a month - only for the first year. I've only done the Spelling Bee for a few days. The thing that really adds an extra dimension is the fact that you can reuse the letters and so make larger words. For instance I was chuffed I got ARROWROOT which essentially only uses 5 letters. I will have to put a limit to the time I spend on these things - they are terrible time wasters.
60p is more palatable. Yes I agree on building words - completely understand and led to arrowroot! They offer me an “upgrade” to £0.60 a week (less for a year) so not quite your 50p.
Being able to doubl letters etc is good. One ”trick” is that short words you initially reject because they don’t include the centre letter can ‘grow’ into valid ones by extending to longer words (not sure if that’s clear)..
Spelling is all American co valor not valour etc. and if you look at “yesterday‘s” solutions there will be a lot of mysterious (to English eyes) words. Heavy on Yiddish & Spanish too.
Yes, I was surprised/annoyed at “matt” too. There have been quite a lot of those perfectly good words they won’t accept.60p is more palatable. Yes I agree on building words - completely understand and led to arrowroot!
The spelling differences are slightly annoying and also cultural differences.
There were a few odd words yesterday - now I've checked I shall have to look them up! I emailed them with ones I found that they didn't have the previous day - matt (surprising - do they not use matt paper? ) and tartyIt makes you feel better instead of feeling indignant like I do if I try the Times Polygon and they don't accept words.
3 today. Had to use crossword solver though.
Sorry.Cheat!

It’s just not a ‘likely’ word as I said originally. I had a cry for help from niece West Australia this am because she’d just gone ‘word blind‘ on it despite having most of the letters.A 4 for me, but it took me AGES to think of the answer. I thought of it early on but for some reason dismissed it. I didn't think of a crossword solver
