I must admit I never knew he was that age though.
Radio, West end and TV star
RIP Nicholas Parsons,

Yes, sad news that a voice (mostly, as even recall him in some B&W movies ~ though the movie names escape me???)) that has punctuated my life to date has now gone.

RIP

And now, from Norwich, it's the quiz of the week"..... That's all I can honestly remember Nicholas Parsons for. But as you say, days of our childhood...

To be honest, I thought he had died years ago. I used to watch Sale of the Century with my mum and dad when i was a kid and he seemed so old to me as he looked so much older than my dad. Turns out he was only a year older than my dad.
RIP.

I too thought he had already passed. Like above, I hear his name and its...And now, from Norwich, it's the quiz of the week.

I saw him at the Edinburgh festival last year - quite entertaining in his own way.

RIP

I was thinking along the same lines about another bit of my childhood gone until my dad (who's nearly 80) made the comment, it just shows what an amazing career the man had.
He was still hosting just a minute on radio 4 until quite recently and his steady delivery combined with Paul Mertons surreal comments to make a very funny show.
RIP you deserve the rest.

I have been listening to "Just a minute" on and off since I started travelling to work by car again last August, didn't realise he hadn't been on for a while, evn more surprised he died as I wasn't aware he was even ill. I thought he was hopeless on TV (bit like Terry Wogan in that respect) but he was great on JaM.
Shame he's died and as my Dad's 91 this year 96 doesn't seem that good an age, all relative I suppose. (literally when it's your Dad)

RIP.

I too remember him fondly from 'Sale of the Century' - live from Norwich.

For those who enjoy irreverent humour, (see The Young Ones) I urge you to watch 'Mr Jolly Lives Next Door' - a 'Comic Strip Presents' production, starring Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson, Peter Cook and Nicholas 'bloody' Parsons!
(Quoting Adrian Edmondson from the film)
Not only is it hilarious (arguably a screen rehearsal for Rik and Ade's 'Bottom' characters), but it also shows what a good sport Nicholas was, sending up his much beloved on-screen persona.
(The Dorchester restaurant scenes are comedy gold!)

He will be missed!
