Just a quick thumbs up for Apple.

The Bluetooth on my 10 month old iMac packed up a few weeks ago. I took it to storm front (apple premium partner) who diagnosed the issued as software problems. I wasn't convinced but took the machine back and it worked fine for another week before failing again.

This time apple arranged to have the machine uplifted to Amsys in London (another one of apples repair partners). They diagnosed a faulty logic board and proceeded to swop it out.

I got the machine back yesterday afternoon but it would not boot to the desktop. Eventually after some telephone diagnostics and an attempted reinstall action of the OS it was determined that there was now another hardware issue.

After a few choice words with the poor apple representative he has agreed to replace the machine with a brand new, higher spec iMac with a full 1 year guarantee.

So, well done apple. It's been a frustrating couple of weeks but you have gone out of your way to resolve the issue and keep your customer happy and committed to the brand.

I always found them very good when it comes to repairs to my iphone 5, sorry fifth iphone. reliability of their products is a different issue in my experience.

My iPad's forward facing camera failed during the warranty period, but unfortunately it was 6 months out of warranty by the time I took it to the apple shop for diagnosis. Hardware failure confirmed, Apple offered to replace it with another customer return (in other words an old for old replacement) for the princely sum of £199, yes £1 short of two hundred pounds for a second hand iPad. Did I take up their kind offer, of course I didn't.

Why not take it back inside the warranty period rather than wait so long?

I had an issue with some content on iTunes the other day (basically it wasn't released by Apple on the day they stated on iTunes, they even stated that day on the day but was released the day after) and I complained. They have since given me a full refund, left me with full access to the season pass and sent me a very nice email saying that they like to see me smile (it seems the content customer services is based in the US).

In fairness you did take it back 6 months out of warranty.
You could always go down the consumer rights route which states you have up to 6 years, but you will need to prove inherent fault at this late stage.

I'm sure if you'd taken it back when you first discovered it they would have sorted it out for you.

Yes indeed, I wasn't put out too much to be honest, lines have to be drawn somewhere and through my own inertia I missed out. The front camera is only of use to me for FaceTime, so I use my iPhone instead.
The point of my earlier message was to share my dismay at Apple's 'offer' of £199 for a second hand iPad, and giving mine to them to sell for another £199.
Reviewing the Apple forum, it appears that the failure of the forward facing camera is quite common, indicating either a design, manufacturing or component defect. That being the case Apple should provide 'good will' and sort it out for much less than £199, especially for an item that cost £350 new.
