I posted a few days ago that I thought I had ruined my film when I didn't flick the switch on the OM-2n prior to winding the lever. I had opened the back to find the film on the right hand side with the end torn, and of course, it was exposed to light when I opened the back.

I was pretty dejected and angry with myself since this was the first time I had ever used Velvia - it's not cheap and I had used it over the course of 5-6 weeks. It was also the first time I had ever used my Olympus OM-2n.

I was comforted a bit by the replies that suggested I take it to a proper film developer and see what they could do. I settled upon Genie Imaging and took the camera to them yesterday. Well, today I collected the negatives and scanned CD (Genie Imaging seem really good btw).

I have to say I am very pleased - only around 6-7 were ruined, and of the rest, most were ok (exposed ok) and a few I was pleasantly surprised with. As a Velvia virgin it exceeded all my expectations! :)

Thank you so much to everyone for all the advice which as always was speedy and very helpful.

Here are three pics from the roll - hope you like them.

Good to hear it worked out well. One thing I've learned since switching back to film is you have a lot more of those, "oh crap", moments than you do with digital!

Shane, some really cracking images there, well worth the effort to get sorted. Keep shooting with that OM2, your output from it is great!

At least you know where the rewind switch is now and I'll wager you won't forget to use it in the future. :)

Thanks guys :)

I'm also surprised that the relatively inexpensive 50mm f1.8 and 28mm f3.5 did so well. What is even more surprising is that I managed to focus properly and more or less got the exposure right! I thought I would screw up using the camera for the first time but it was fine.

All three are really nice. 2 is a fantastic shot but number 3 has that classic velvia film look. I am getting pretty tired of the digital look and keep fiddling with my shouts to make them look more like film, and your shots are encouraging me in that direction.

Number 2 surprised the heck out of me as it was so clear and vibrant - even with the best digital camera I doubt any un-processed RAW file would look that good straight out of the camera. Number 3 is my favourite. It's not the best composition but it looks amazing to my eyes with the tones and colours. It's vibrant but muted at the same time, if that makes sense. I also love the bokeh and for a cheapy lens the 50mm is really nice.
