Yes
...alive apparently.

(From what I can gather, not far from her home, I think it may be her grandparents where she has been staying)

I said on day one there was something iffy about the family when the mother appeared on the news sporting a big shiner (Which I read was the stepdad). Hard to believe what with all the crap tabloid stuff floating around.

But still nice to see she's been found alive and well.

Maybe things were so bad at home she didn't want to go back?

Thats great news, its always horrible when anyone goes missing, kids more so.

Bry.

A bit more (uncorroborated) breaking news. Sky News are reporting that the police smashed their way into a neighbours house after he wouldn't come out and they emerged carrying Shannon (who looked fine), and they found her under the bed.

I'm glad she's alive and I hope she's ok and not been held against her will.

I really don't know who in their right mind would hide her with all of that going on though!

A 39 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of abduction.

Apparently police broke into a flat about a mile from her home, and she was found concealed in the base of a divan bed.

Glad she has been found ok. That has been worrying for everyone i think

what made you say it was her grandparents?

\was a freind of her stepfather apparently.

Im so relieved she is alive........24 days is a long time, after about a week I think most people were fearing the worst.

what made you say it was her grandparents?

Just repeating what stories were emerging at the time.
News were reporting she had been found with her grandparents, and had possibly run away there (I think).

The flat where she was found was in the same vicinity as her grandparents, which was where the confusion may have arose.

Glad she's been found alive and well.

Have you seen the state of her step father?

Pleased to hear that she is still alive, but I fear there is more to this story than meets the eye. It all sounds a bit suspect to me :suspect:

Good to hear she is safe, but why did she only get half the newsprint that Madeline McCann got and the papers put up much less than half the reward money they did for Madeline

I see what you mean whiteflyer :( sad isn't it

glad shes been found, i think there is more to come out on this, shes been put under local authority care for the time being...

Yeah I noticed that.
But then I think that will be more of a precautionary measure and so they can keep full control while investigating.

I'm sure if it was my daughter I'd be tempted to say "Sod your investigation I just want her home", which her mum now can't do, due to the order.

tis a strange set of affairs...

Putting a child in police/social services care after an abduction is procedure.

We [the public] only think it strange because it has not happened before.

Most children abducted and not found after 3 days sadly are never to be returned to their family.

A lot of gossip has been reported and I can ONLY SAY dont believe everything you read.

It is proceedure, but the order they have put over her is exceptional. In most cases if the parents request that the child be returned to them then there is nothing the police can do, but with this special order that has been granted they can hold the child for as long as deemed necessary for the investigation to be concluded.

There is definitely a lot more to come out of this that is for sure. Especially since the abductor is the uncle of the step-father. An intriguing story. The most important thing of course though is that she has been found alive and 'well'.

Or possibly not. Is it possible that the media took a long hard look at themselves after the orgy of coverage of the McCann case and decided that that had been inappropriate? The Express in particular made itself look downright ridiculous with featuring every twist and turn (and every non-twist and turn) in that case on its front page, day after day to the exclusion of all other news.

And maybe the police asked the press to keep it low key to aid the investigation, especially if they suspected a friend, neighbour or family member instead of a stranger.

The other issue is that the McCann coverage was driven in part by the greater availability of material to keep it going, eg new family photos every few days, the articulateness of the friends of the McCanns etc. Being able to produce a couple of new snaps from the family album every few days did help to keep the case in the newspapers when coverage seemed to flag, whereas in the Matthews case there only seemed to be Shannon's school photograph available (presumably the family didn't have or couldn't afford a camera) and there's only so much you can do with that and so often you can show it.

Alternatively perhaps it was simply because journalists preferred a couple of weeks all expenses paid in the Algarve but didn't fancy an extended posting in Dewsbury.
