I have been asked to photograph 9mth old twins for a friend at work.
I have a set of Elinchrome D Lites and can borrow another set. I also have a white paper background and a soft leather chair and a throw which could go over the chair. I have done some fashion shoots but nothing with babies / toddlers. Any thoughts on poses would be greatly appreciated.

John.

Are they boys or girls/one of each?

Wicker baskets are good, you know you could top and tail them and shoot from above (well and of course other angles), piles of towels, cuddle big toys, matching trendy hats, if you can mum and dad in shots

Thanks for the suggestions Dave and the link.
Much appreciated.

John.

Hi John

No probs good luck with the shoot look forward to seeing a couple of shots

also theres another thread on here asking about baby poses, and its got some images that members have been posted on it, I'll find it and post a link to it

Thanks for the help Dave. The shoot was a disaster lol. Tired and teething twins pulling at their ears and crying meant a reschedule in a few weeks time.

John

If you add twins to that google search it might give you some more ideas

Although there is some unrelated dross in there too.

Hi John, shame it was a bit of a nightmare - never work with children and animials LOL.
A lot of pics in those links are of newborns.
At 9mth I bet they are happily sitting up on their own and probably crawling about. If they are in the mood, probably best to sit them on the floor, get parent(s) a bit behind you to draw their attention, and you will probably have to lie down too! You can always shoot them individually, and then blend into one shot in PS.

Hope it works out better for you next time. Just watch out for your light stands!

First, go into the house or get the family in your studio and do nothing. Let the baby play whilst sat on the background and have a cup of tea with the parents. The secret to success here is patience, take plenty of time and do not restrict yourself to a time slot. The session will take as long as it takes. Only when the baby feels comfortable will you get some good results.
Babies are notorious for their lack of concentration. So, try to give them something to do and forget posing. At nine months they will do as they please.
Surround them with cushions, as they tend to throw themselves backwards quite violently and can harm themselves, thereby bringing the session to an abrupt halt.
Get a piece of sellotape, make a circle out of it and stick it to the back of the baby's hand. This will occupy the baby for quite some time and allow you to shoot away.
If you want the baby to sit still try placing a washing up bowl under whatever the baby is sat on and sit them in it. This restricts their movements but also restricts your shots to waist up only images. Try to shoot the baby on the floor, that way they cannot fall any further. Try variations on these themes and good luck
Post some results if the parents will let you.

Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed reply. Theres some excellent advice there.
Much appreciated
John.
