9mm or 7mm SSD

Planning to buy an SSD for some projct work (desktop) and later swap it into a laptop. Would the 9mm version fit most laptops, or do I need the 7mm version?

i would be inclined to see what is in your laptop presently and go for the same thickness.

Will have a look, but I'm thinking to buy a new laptop too.

Thought the slim versions might be for ultra-portables, etc.

7mm is for ultrabook, 9mm is fine for most normal laptops.
