8GB SDHC card showing as 2GB in D40

Hi all,

Any ideas why my 8GB SDHC only shows as 2GB in my Nikon D40?

All I can think of is it's not compatible with 8GB cards.

Where did you get the card could it be fake. my D40 works with both 4 and 8GB cards.
 
The card's formatted as FAT16, which has a 2GB partition limit.

Like Rich says, try formatting it in the camera.
 
Thanks for the replies. I removed the partition on the card on my Mac and let the camera do it all. Need to find out where it tells me the size now!
 
No idea, I formatted the card again in my camera and checked on my Mac. It says 8Gb available so I guess it's working ok.

I'm not sure where to check to see how many shots I have left.
