Is the 85 1.8 as good as everyone tells me?

Would I notice the difference in performance over the Tamron 90 2.8 VC macro lens I already have?

My daughters prom is coming up and a good portrait lens is a definite contender for my next buy (if the holiday super zoom doesn't get bought first).

Faster focussing, shallower depth of field and more light gathering capabilities. If these things matter, buy one. If they don't matter then there's no need.

Good luck trying to get an 85 f1.8G in stock! Seems to be out everywhere!

I'm not surprised. Looks like a lot of lens for £300.

I found with my 35 1.4 I hardly use it down the bottom end. The Tamron is quite slow to focus and the extra T1.2 might come in handy (I guess the difference between the F & T is constant across the range?)

that will do nicely. Wex, Park, Amazon or Jessops

Have one and love it. The best lens I own.

Just got one from WEX only place I could see with stock

Lots in stock now & Nikon say if you order before 31/5 you can still claim cashback even if lens is delivered when they get them back in stock.

After seeing this thread I have ordered one from Wex. I have never bought anything with cashback before, so how do I go about getting the £50?

Go here, complete the online form, wait for what feels like eternity and just before you completely forget about it a Mastercard prepaid Nikon card will fall through your door.

Last time I needed to send in the Nikon warranty cards copies too.

(I hope you used a next day free delivery code with Wex

Bargain, I thought they delayed it to prevent people buying kit and taking it back

Thanks for your very helpful replies. No Peter I didn't use the next day free delivery code. I had a problem when trying to buy it online so I rang them up and paid over the phone.
It is free delivery but it will be three or four days.
