Zavvi Outlet on eBay are currently advertising CnM Core Portable 80GB 2.5" USB 2.0 External HDD for £16.99 including P&P - link.
 
Looks like a good bargain. I couldn't find any reviews on this make of drive and so would be wary of backing up important data onto it. It would be useful to know what make of drives are used.
 
I have one of these it's great, I use it as a backup.
The only thing I have to say that it should say In the manual is that if you use have a mac you must reformat it using disk utility otherwise it won't work.

And I think it's a samsung drive in it.
 
James, I read somewhere that this drive, even though it doesn't use external mains power, needs two USB slots to function. Can you confirm if that's true please?

I am always up for a bargain, but this seems very cheap and would not want to trust an important backup to something this cheap.

Dunno, but many have two sockets in case the USB port you connect the data cable to can't supply the current.
To be honest, it's a pretty small drive for these days. Can't imagine what you'd use the thing for personally.
 
I don't really see this as a backup drive 80GB is far too small (for me anyway) ordered one just to store music on for work :) £17 for 80GB bargain :P.
