On Tuesday Benneh, DavidJColbran and I will take part in the biggest shoot ever. Tuesday is Liverpool’s 800th birthday. It is going to be one hugely hectic day for many reasons. The main shoot of the day will be to take 100 portraits around the city. Some, hopefully, will be of friends. Most will be of random people on the street. We are working from 8am to 8pm. 8 photographers. 800 portraits. Liverpool’s 800th birthday. Now here’s were it gets hectic. By the next morning they should hopefully all be online. By the day after, Thursday, they will all be exhibited at the Albert Dock. 800 portraits taken, processed, printed, exhibited in 2 days. Everyone who I shoot gets an invite to the launch night. It is going to be insane! Now to add to the chaos it’s Liverpool’s 800th birthday so I will also want a piece of that action. Street parties, parades, and the biggest baddest fireworks display ever. The Pier Head and both cathedrals will be exploding with fireworks. That will be a shot to get. I’m even thinking of using 2 bodies, one strictly for the Pier Head and one wide angle for the landscape. Tuesday will be some day. We’ve got the Popcultured website online now where the galleries will be displayed. Go check it out and pray for us.

:eek::lol::lol:

Just to add... If you're local, then get your bottom down here on the 28th, and have thy face captured! (only take 2 mins :P).

As for the shoot..

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :help:

I got the day of work, so i'll be down there from early to late. Should be a good day.

I'm going to be racing around taking people's portraits as part of this project as well - can't wait - should be loads of fun!

Sounds like a great day - very hectic, but lots of fun! Nice to be one of the 'togs too I expect, on what is quite a historical landmark date for Liverpool.:woot:

Looking forward to seeing the results! Good luck guys!

As posted in other thread..

Goooooooood Lucccccck to all of you :thumbs::thumbs:

I just wish I could join in !!

Sounds great - good luck to all of you.

Would love to come down as I still consider Liverpool to be my home town even though I've been away a long time. (sadly I'm leaving for Milan that day so can't make it)

like they said... lens caps off - batteries charged.

Rather you than me is all I can say

Good luck with it all.:thumbs::)

Quick update. We did it! Everyone got their photos taken, and printed. We're hanging them today. It was some day. My assistant couldn't make it so I was left to do the entire thing alone. 100 strangers, photos, names, bit of info.... Insane day. We made the local paper too. Though they got some of our names wrong :D Seeing the empty gallery, nearly 800 photos on the floor, well its something :) When its done it will be amazing. I wasn't nervous yesterday but today I'm a well a little nervous :D

Though they got some of our names wrong :D

Looks like an over-zealous spell checker at work here...

well done anyway, will any of the photos be online for those of us not able to get to Liverpool?

They will be yeah. Not 100% sure when, maybe after the exhibition ends.

Cool, think I will have to see this exhibition. Will it be free or how much is it?

Well.. The last few days have been great . Hard, but great!.

I'm really chuffed with everyones images (I've got no idea why I put it like that, because I wasn't in charge or anything, but it really did just 'work' :)). DavidJColbran's photographs were excellent, as I expected. And petemc made quite a statement (imo) and went completely B+W (very striking when placed next to the predominantly colourful images of the other togs).

And personally I was just really pleased and relieved that I didn't bomb. I really thought that I wasn't remotely ready for an event of this scale, and that I needed a lot more experience, but it all turned out OK. My images aren't 100% (not by a long shot), but I have some photos in there that I'm really please with, which is a bit rare for me really, and I don't think that they look at-all out of place next to the other togs work (please do tell me if they do guys! lol). And most of all, I'm proud hehehe :geek:.

Would I do it again?... You bet ya :P.

Here's a few snaps. Excuse the quality, ISO 1600 and shot completely randomly as snaps!, in-between chatting etc. I'll be getting some decent shots over the next few days.

And a shoddy view of the entrance (at the docks).

I hate doing this cos those pics all look fab and youve every right to feel proud
... but the pics are too big, tis 800px on the longest side or links only.
Thanks for understanding!

EDIT: Ahhh you beat me to it ... good man!

Wow! Very impressive. And I'll admit it.... finally something I couldn't POSSIBLY do with film. LOL.

Well done.

well done chaps - it was a big ask and I'm really impressed you pulled it off. be very proud

Hehe thanks guys :). I was totally shattered by the time I got home on Tuesday night (800 shoot and then back into town to film the 800 fireworks display!), and then I woke up on Wednesday with 4 and a half hours to get the images to the printer.. Cue mad lightroom correction rush and staring intently at the monitor praying for a quick export :P (even managed to get some sharpening done in PS!).

And I'll remember the 800pix along the longest edge rule InaGlo, sry bout that. I only noticed because the forum auto-resizing looked a bit jaggedy :).

omg omg omg omg omg EIGHT HUNDRED PEOPLE! Still sounds insane even after it all. Still can't get my head around it. 800! Any local people should pop in to see it. I'm not plugging it because I'm in it but just because how often do you get to see anything of this scale? You don't. Its like looking at 3 walls of thumbnails.

It was a great idea and looks like it has been really well executed. Well done everyone involved.

I've actually just realised that I'll be in Liverpool this weekend so I reckon I'll try and get along to see that there exhibition.

I'm also thinking that I'll take my OM20 with just the 50mm along for the weekend just for a bit of a change from the digital.

Funny, I keep thinking of taking my OM1 out for a day, leaving the DSLR at home and forcing myself to try and be more creative with my photos!

Is that a euphemism for, 'being careful as I only have 36 exposures and I know each one will have to count cos it's gonna cost me money?' ;)

That was wicked - really great exhibtion launch - still recovering to be honest! Fantastic images from all the photographers. Here are a couple of mine

Kinda crazy eh. Its like it was someone elses project, watching all the stuff and reading about it. Hard to really believe we all did it.

love that image and his surroundings!

Thanks - it's in my local pub in Wavertree - The Coffee House (it used to be a temperance meeting place!) and I took portraits of 5 or 6 men of a certain age in there drinking at lunchtime. On the way out the barmaid suggested asking this man, who always sits in the corner reading a broadsheet.

He is a bit deaf, so it took a bit of loud persuasion to get across what we were doing. But he agreed and it was definately the best portrait taken in the pub.

But yeah, agree with Pete it was really weird watching the short film!

Awesome photo mate. Video looked good, I look forward to seeing the work for myself tomorrow or Tuesday.

Was great to see the exhibition on Saturday, some fantastic work there. Really very impressive what you managed to achieve, a big pat on the back all round me thinks.

Was good to talk to you Pete and Ben too.
