I never use my credit card over the counter anywhere only to make purchases online, and then only from a few selected photography dealers. Just tried to purchase something from an online supplier and had it declined. Phoned Mastercard and they say that they have had loads of problems with strange transactions attempted with my card. Then she says 'Do you ever use 7dayshop'? I said yes and she said well thats probably where the problems are from then. They have had a massive increase in card fraud from people who have purchased from then and then found their details being used elsewhere.
Just thought i would warn people to be careful and check their statements. One of the attempted purchases was £139 for shoes! :shake:

Mine was once used a few years ago to buy porn stuff in Miami from somewhere in India. :lol:

Great timing, I was about to order a load of film from them yesterday but never got around to it. Time to look elsewhere. Thanks.
 
Have you contacted them and asked them?
It does seem unlikely from quite a reputable dealer...

Even reputable dealers can get stung if they aren't watching their backs, but they are hardly likely to admit it, although behind closed doors they may well be conducting an investigation if they have any sense. However in fairness, I have used 7ds many times and not had any issues, my statements all tally, HE makes sure they do :help: ;)
 
For what it is worth, I have used 7 day shop on frequent occasions - always paying by credit card - and have never had any problems (so far?)

Thanks for the heads' up on this; and yes all business get attacked.

A short while after I bought Adobe Lightroom I got a letter from them telling me that their system's been violated and my personal data stolen. They claimed there was nothing to be alarmed about .. but I was furious :annoyed:

I just made sure to check my bank account details a number of times for a while thereafter to make sure everything was intact in there (not that there is much money in my accounts).

This is one of the many issues with online banking and buying. The convenience comes at a price, sadly :shake:
 
It is such tales of woe that make the pay as you go credit cards a really great idea. If you only ever add onto it what you are going to use, cloners have no use for it and no access to your bank/credit details with them - or so the blurb goes. Does anyone have one of these cards and how do they rate it?

I recently used them to purchase something for a grand total of £7.50. I am now £850.00 down.....

I'm with the Halifax, just waiting for the decleration to come so I can claim it back :(
 
I am surprised that Mastercard told you. When my Amex card had problems earlier in the year they would not tell us where the problem originated due to Data protection issues (mind you I had used it at Cotton Traders during the time they had problems with data security so I did wonder if it was due to that).
 
There can be many reasons for this from a hack into the secure server to an employee noting down credit card details.

Happens a lot in restaurants when you hand over the card.

Highly unlikely to be the Company itself, it would be to obvious if details that had ecently been passed in their thousands through a common company all found themselves losing additional money.
 
My card was cloned recently (Visa) - at least, it was used in Canada to withdraw £219 cash ! Barclaycard refused the transaction and phoned me. They checked minutely all previous transactions and we did come up with a possible culprit but they refused to confirm it. These days I avoid that petrol station, or I pay cash. . .

I had the same problem with Amazon UK 4 years ago. Only used my card online once with them, then after 3 weeks, my card got used again on the amazon site. Called amazon and they gave me a funny name who used my card, when I contacted them again to ask the person's details so I can report it to the police, they refused to give me info.
Apparently loads of illegal immigrants working with them. Don't know about now. I complained to my credit card company and they sorted it out, got my money back too.
 
Mine was skimmed after useing it at Sainsbury"s for juice last year , £500 went at an Orange phone shop. Got it back from Halifax after a couple of weeks , petrol stations are favourite.
 
Most likely a dodgy employee, selling details of customers. proberbly very young and spotty it's always the case.........:thumbsdown:

I had a call from goldfish just 2 days ago and my card has been cloned and I have in the recent past been a user of 7 day shop. I am sure though if there is any connection that it will be a rogue employee selling details.

As a supplier I have also found them good value and prompt at sending the goods.

I am waiting to see what goods I have meant to have bought!

Ours was done at a petrol station..........various purchases made in India totalling £500.

We got it all refunded though. It was apparently at the ATM outside, not in the actual kiosk where you pay.
 
Folks I have to say I have used 7dayshop quite alot and have nothing but excellent service. This is a real shame and probably as a result of a dodgy employee, but at the end of the day it is the companies responsibility to ensure their customers information is safe.

They aint got no phone number Marcel but its best off left to the fraud team. They haver been an excellent dealer in the past and i have spent literally thousands with them as there prices are fantastic but this has left a bad taste in my mouth.
 
Was considering spending £500 plus on a lens from them as the prices are competetive , not so sure now , any suggestions and does anyone know if their Sigma lens come with Uk Sigma warranty.

I'm not surprised Deano. It would leave a bad taste in my mouth too (If I too was sure that's where it happened).

I'm usually quite careful with my CC details now. I don't use them at anything but major retail petrol stations (IE Tesco / Asda), and reputable online dealers.

Like has been said though, it could have been anywhere from a spotty kid to anything. Even if their system is 100% secure...there will still be a possibility of error, and where humans are involved...that's where the weakest link usually is :)

Who knows. I do hope you get it all sorted though. I'm sure they will want it sorting just as quick as you. You only need to take a look at the first couple of posts in this thread to see how damaging something can be to a business.

Just cancelled my debit card and ordered a new one, just to be sure.

I bought a Sigma 100-300 F4 from them last week , I have bought lots of items from them over the years , not a problem as of yet.
Like I said earlier on in the thread I have been the victim of skimming once before and that was at a petrol station ( Sainsbury"s) , still use cards at filling stations but watch em like a hawk.
Know you cant do that with online transaction but problems can happen wherever there is a human element .
 
Bought a battery for my 1D, Two weeks later £750 went out of account, Just had it back off barclays, Think i will let them know,
 
I've bought from 7dayshop many times with no problems.

Last year I was contacted by the Visa card fraud team about a £900 transaction they had stopped in America. I had used my card the previous weeks to buy several item from internet so couldn't say where the problem arose but they cancelled my card and I had to wait for a week or so for the new one.

I decided to get another card just for internet so I wouldn't be stuck without a card again. Shortly after getting the new card I ordered from 7dayshop. Next day there was a £50 charge for a mobile phone top up which was eventually refunded after signing a form saying that I had not made the transaction.

I don't blame 7dayshop but I've no doubt it was one of their scumbag employees. I only hope that the fraud team traced the top up back to the culprit.
 
I had my card skimmed in a local shop in Bangor, they tried to withdraw £500 cash twice and then tried for less than a fivers worth of petrol :cuckoo: surely start small and work up to large amounts

Prior to having my own cards (under 18) I used my Mum and Dad's, always after asking permission, I purchased some SCUBA gear at the dive centre then went online and booked some diving in Malta. Within 10 seconds of the online booking Dad had a call from HSBC Credit Card Protection checking his card was safe and that he was aware of the activity :thumbs: very good service
