so was wondering what am i going to wow over, compared to my 550d?
i bought it for the fps which with raw buffers ater 2 or 3, but im sure theres alot more that this baby can do, so come on, sings its praises, oh and thanks for any advice too:)

Hope you aren't expecting the auto iso you can set a maximum value for, cos it ain't got it

Level indicator is pretty nifty though and the raw/jpeg button is also handy, don't rush with the AF settings, have a good read and get it straight in your head what its all about

I bought one yesterday to replace my backup camera (40D).

So I'll be playing with it in anger tomorrow at a wedding in Loch Lomond. 5DII with a 24-105 and the 7D with the new 70-200 f2.8L IS MkII :)

do you mean it has no auto iso? also read about the focusing, what does that entail, it seemed quite confusing, hope it will be easier once i get my hands on it

Does have auto iso, but unlike the 550D which you can set at a max, great feature that and the 60D also has it

A lot more complex - especially the AF system

is this the af like in nigels first link? where it can change focus points as a subject moves through them, will this give me a better chance of say a bird in flight?, past attemps are soft at best

You need some good lenses to get the best from the camera IMO, was the same with my D7000 Nikon. These new large sensors really want the good glass to show you what they can do!

in lay mans terms what does this menan "C.Fn III 6 Select AF area selec. mode’ enabled. If you then select ‘Register’ you can place check marks next to the types of AF you use. Once you have your check marks finished you select ‘Apply’ to finalize your selections. To me this is probably the most critical setting of all. I have both of the automatic focus point selection options unchecked (these are the first 2 choices on the menu). If you want your images to be critically sharp where you want them to be sharp, don’t rely on the camera to choose your focus point for you. Using these 2 focus options is akin to shooting in full auto mode in my opinion, and is the cause of many out of focus images being posted on the internet forums"

Centre and spot is all i ever use the others are letting the camera decide
