7d third party spare battery

Hi

I'm just asking for people's opinions.

I bought a third party battery for my new 7D. I charged it up and inserted it into the camera. I got a message along the lines of 'camera doesn't recognise battery' then the option 'use anyway', I clicked 'use anyway'. It's working ok but the battery life indicator on the camera is showing blank.

Do you think it's ok to use it with the camera or not? I thought maybe I'd keep it and just use it for emergencies.

Thoughts please.

it will be ok to use but you wont have the battery life indicator for this battery

Yes, a lot of the cheapy LP-E6 batteries do that.

Next time you buy one look for one that says fully decoded.

I got one non-Canon LP-E6 equivalent together with a used grip I bought. But this battery has the appropriate communication chip inside. The camera displays the same information as it does for a Canon battery, including letting me register the battery if I want to.
It has one digit less in the serial number - that's all.
