I guys, iam after a cheap but decent grip for my 7D looks like the Meike 7d grip is the best one to get. There are cheaper ones at Amazon, has anyone got one?

Even after my disaster with a meike for my d300s I would still say go for one.For the money they are well worth it.Had one on my d90 and it was superb.

Anyone else?

Have a look on eBay as well. There's another brand called Aputure and I've used them on all five of the DSLRs I've owned in the past. I've never owned a genuine battery grip, and there's no need to. Meike or Aputure will work just fine.

I've got Meike grips on my 7D and 5D3 and the wife has one on her 650D. I've never had any problems with any of the grips at all. The one on the 650D is nearly 2 years old and was bought originally to go on a 550D but then went onto the 650D when it arrived. All 3 have been perfect, as has the 20 or so 3rd party batteries we use in the grips. The batteries for the 650D are the ones I bought again for the 550D over 2 years ago and are still going as good as new.

I got a Mieke grip with my 7D.
Never used a geniune grip so I have nothing to compare it to but the only 2 gripes I have is:
A) I seems to no be able to display the correct battery code in the correct slot, it often just shows the same code and same battery level for both slots
B) You have to very firmly push the batteries in as they don't always make 100% contact.

Cheers Pete, what does the battery display show on the body's screen? Yeah I saw a YT video saying there was abit of an issue putting the batteries in...

It'll show that 2 batteries are in but will show the overall battery power as one or the other.
It then seems to randomly use power from either battery.

I didn't get a manual with mine - maybe this is "by design" - but I expected it to either show the aggregated battery life left across the 2 batteries or each seperately.
Not a massive deal for me as I have a spare set of batteries, but for someone with a single set trying to judge battery left is a bit hit and miss.
