Hi 7D users,i got mine on wednesday but only just had chance to play,is it normal that the shutter is so clunky sounding when taking pics ?

quite liked the sound of it personally. My mate had it and made my 50D sound like a toy! mind you he was ratteling it off on high speed shooting.
 
When I first heard the 7D shutter I fell in love. I came from the 400D which sounded so plasticky(sp?) and cheap but the 7D feels far more substantial and satisfying. I'm sure there's nothing to worry about and you'll soon get used to it.

Oh, agree its nothing to worry about. It's a fast moving mirror and shutter which make that noise. Sounds quite like my 1DIV
 
The 1D Classic sounds like Optimus Prime sneezing when your burst fire. Love that YouTube vid of the 1D MK III @ 10fps though.
 
I went from 450D to 7D - love the sound of the shutter now, the xxxD's sound like toys!

I still prefer the 5D2's "kerthunk". 7D doesn't sound too good to me... except when it's running at 8.5fps ;-)

yep, or a mouse being slapped. it's so true - i'm almost convinced that there's a mouse inside my 450D, perhaps I should give it some cheese :suspect::thinking:
 
im in stiches over the mouse expressions here, my wife has just looked at me funny... i cant wait to get my 5DII and enjoy some kerthunk as sleepo said.
 
The 7D is quite quite compared to my IDs MkII and when I use my 50D I feel as if it is broken it is so quite. I much prefer the noise of the 1DS full frame.
 
Another one coming from a 400D to 7D. I never really liked the 400D shutter sound but the 7D is very nice. I was shooting pheasants with my 7D the other day as a first test of the camera and when I fired of a burst at 8fps I was hooked! Felt like a gun! Maybe hunters should do that as no birds get killed that way lol.

Any noise at all from the shutter is a very bad thing IMVHO.

My 20D sounds awful, waaaaaaaay too loud.
