Hi 7D owners,I have used mine new 7D today for the first time, some of the pics are ok some seem to have a yellowish colour to them,I thought maybe to get the best from it can some of you more experianced guys tell me what settings you leave the same all the time please,I have quality set at S raw,as I never print larger than 15 x 10in,color space is set to sRGB,picture style set to standard, auto lighting optimizer set to standard, and so on,is there such a way to set up the 7D to suit all types of photography apart from your own little tweaks,
sorry if these all seem stupid questions,I just want to get the best out of my new camera,
regards john.

Where the yellowish ones taken under artificial light? Could it be a white balance issue?

If it is you can easily correct it in RAW or do a custom white balance before you shoot.

Hi,I just took a look at my wb setting and stupid me has left them on sunny when I was indoors under old atrificial light,(old national trust house),the pics I took out side are very good,
regards john.

I just leave my WB setting on auto and sort it out later in RAW. One less thing to worry about.

I didn't think you were supposed to take interior shots in National Trust properties only exterior. :naughty:

Hi Ken,your not a member then of the NT then,in most photography maggs & news papers it has been reported that it is now ok to use your camera inside all NT properties but NO FLASH,
regards john.

I am a member of the NT, so when did that change then, good news for me, mind you the missus may not be so happy :)

What about monopods ;)

I've discovered only fairly recently that the 'Faithful' Picture Style setting gives the most natural colour with the 7D. This applies even if you shoot raw and process in Canon DPP, as the Picture Style setting is applied to the image when you initially open it in DPP and gives a good result without any further adjustment (for colour) in most cases.

White balance issues should be easily corrected in your raw processor too.

Another silly question,as i already have the canon software from the 450D loaded onto my laptop do i need to load up the software that came with the 7D ?surely its the same isnt it ?,or would the 7D software be a newer edition ?,
regards
john.

Even though i have the DPP software i only ever use lightroom 2,

You'll have to load the new DPP software which came with your 7D - older versions wont be able to deal with 7D raw files. I had to do this when I got the 7D - the earlier version which came with the 50D wouldn't open the 7D files.

You should actually also check the Canon site too for the latest DPP upgrade. I know there is one which I haven't downloaded yet.

I wonder if that explains why when i download pics from the camera it come up eos utility timed out/not responding,i will load up the new software tomorrow, thanks guys,

Glad your yellow shift has been sorted, one thing I found out was that some computers have not got the resolution to deal with processing large RAW files, a real pain in the ass as the portability of a netbook is useless when you can't use The software
