Hi All, would like some advice please :-)

I got my new 7D home last night, soooo excited, got it out of the box everything fine except the little "set" button in the middle of the rotating wheel which is revolving as I spin the wheel. Only intermittently though.

Should I take it back? Or do you think its unwise being that there could be supply issues from Japan? I think it's been returned before as the seal on the box was tampered with...

Decisions decisions....

Dan

Thanks, I really want to, but didnt want to seem pernickety :nono:

But you're right, I'd rather wait and be 100% happy

The Set button rotates on mine, I think it's normal - I'm sure I read about it in a review before buying mine - can't remember where though.

Chris

sorry, did you say that the little plastic button in the middle of the jog dial sometimes rotates when you turn the jog...and thats a fault??

I think my set button rotates a bit but it's never bothered me 'cos it still works

It's quite common on many Canon bodies....nothing to worry about. I've got two 1DMkIV's....one rotates and the other doesn't whilst the 1Ds3 also turns.

Various Canon's - some rotate - some don't.

I think the 'set' button rotates on all EOS cameras that have it. Absolutely nothing to worry about. Enjoy your 7D.

Yep, the set buttons on both my 50D's rotate, nothing to worry about.

Mike

It does rotate and that's how it's designed. It's not even something to worry about! Enjoy you camera and spend time photographing. You gonna love the 7D :-)

I concur. It rotates on my 1D MKIII too. I noticed it a long time ago but it does not affect its operation.

I've set mine to change the ISO. Can the set button function on the 7D be changed?

superglue. job done. you may need to sand down any excess fluid.

As an outsider looking in it sounds to me as if it's not the actual button/switch that rotates but a cover over it. Assuming for a moment that a switch cover should not rotate I'd then assume that some covers fit better (be that either loose or tight depending on what a better fit is) and don't rotate whilst some have a less good fit and do rotate.

Thanks all...

I'm not allowed to play with it until 3rd May as it's a birthday present. Can't wait!!!

It can be changed, but not to ISO unfortunately. I've got used to using the ISO button on the shoulder of the camera. You can set the "set" button to playback, quick menu, menu, picture style and image quality. So not much use really! :)

edit: Oh and mine rotates too.

I've got mine set to playback so I can check/zoom in on a picture quickly without having to take my hand off the lens. Quickens things up a lot when you're trying to check sharpness but haven't got much time.

Normal for 7D. I think it may even say so in the literature that came with camera.

Mine only rotates approx 90 degrees. Should I upgrade to a full turny-type button?

The button on mine is really firm, but the camera rotates  Enjoy Your Toy!!
