Hi All,

I have decided it is time to upgrade my 400D as it just can't keep up with what I want to do anymore. It has been a great little camera which I have had since the 400D was first released.

So as per title I have decided to go with a 7D but was wondering if you lot knew of a good place with cracking prices for these? Having to look down the back of the sofa for the funds so any place with a good price would be less time searching the sofa

Cheers,
Russ

I'm in the exact same position as you Rusk

Looking to upgrade my 400D to7D sometime soon, though I probably won't have enough till december/january to which im hoping the sales might help with the prices

Lemme know how it goes though! :)

another vote for Kerso - bought my 7D from him about 4-5 months ago and he was cheapest around then - given the £ vs $ getting more favourable for us, I'd expect his prices to be slightly better still

wow thanks for all the quick replies! I will investigate all of them and see where the best deal it. Although I am looking at Jessops as the price is still good and currently they are offering 0% finance for a year so that would help spread the cost and allow me to eat next month ;)

Call yourself a photographer?

You NEED it now....

You don't need to eat...... ;)

Honestly I went for jessops for my 7D. I'd never normally go there for camera equipment, but for something of this value, and importance to me, I really wanted their all inclusive 3 year warranty/insurance thing.

After some haggling I managed to get the warranty/insurance for free, usually it costs 130, so I paid something like 1350 total for the 7D body and that warranty. It feels good knowing if I drop it out of a tree or something, I can just take the smashed body back and get a brand new one, same day.

I took exactly the same upgrade path guys and you won't regret it, forget the food and just buy it, fantastic camera .

haha I am buying tomorrow or Saturday as tomorrow is pay day :D

I think I will go Jessops purely because I can get it now and spread the payments out over 12 months.

Now someone at work did tell me about their 3 year cover plan and also said if you don't clam you can get your money back. Is this true? Also how did you manage to get that down to free?! Any tips would be useful :)

Cheers,
Russ

What is the warranty situation with the imported cheaper bodies? As I understand it, they are not covered by an international warranty.

I believe it was tested out with a Kerso supplied body by someone. Because he supplies an invoice in GBP it was repaired and covered under a UK warranty.

I know it sounds wrong but i keep humming and arring about dslrs and lenses but with what jessops offers when your coughing up alot of £££ then their warrenty thing really does show though.
I priced up all my bits and it came to £1437 an that was for everything, i said i only had 1000 upto yet and they offered to knock another 150 off for me, pity that now i am looking at a 1k lens.

Also who is this kerso person, hes mentioned on the landrover forum alot aswell, is there a web page or is it a pm jobby.

Pm'd you his email address he sells on ebay under the name of Kerso but his prices are cheaper direct via email.

This is a myth - I have a 5D2 from Kerso, so US body, supplied with Kerso's receipt. It has been fixed under warranty in UK and Spain, despite it being a US body. That is why I would always buy from Kerso, as I have 1st hand experience that explodes this myth that seems to crop up on these forums on a fairly regular basis.

Many years ago I bought a Sony TV from Powerhouse with a 5 year warranty, that promised if you don't use it you get your money back. I'm sure I would have done if the company hadn't gone bust in the meanwhile, so I joined a long list of creditors and got ................. Nothing.

Would never bother buying one of those again on those grounds.

Always a risk I guess but Jessops seems fairly solid

I bought from Jessops as i am very impatient and when i made the decision i wanted it there and then LOL

haha and that is exactly why I am going there in my lunch break today!!!

Five of my six DSLR bodies have been supplied by Jessops, and always at market beating prices, thanks to judicious use of cashback websites and voucher codes. I bought my 7D early last November from Jessops for a net cost of £1167. It's only in the last week or so that the price for UK stock seems to have fallen below that....

When the price is right I am more than happy to shop at Jessops. When the price is wrong I simply go elsewhere.
