Just ordered my 7d, DHL says it's on the way, hopefully should land tomorrow, can't wait!!!
 
Excellent bit of kit, make sure you`ve put aside some time to read the manual! I know it`s not the done thing, but on this one.... lol.

Amazing camera for action and versatility, ive had mine a couple of months and feel i will be getting used to it for the next decade!!!
Took some action shots last week of the R.A.F. in Wales, 8fps unbelievable, but the fast C/F card an added 120 quids stung.
If set up corrrectly for a shot the camera can be very helpful, but takes alot of getting used to regarding familiarisation.
YOU WONT BE DISSAPOINTED, BUT YOU WILL BE CONFUSED.

That is a lot! Does anyone know what card is fast enough for the 7D - I'm using Sandisk Ultras (30Mb/s)?

Depends what you are shooting. I mainly shoot wildlife and aircraft, so I went for the Sandisk UDMA type to (hopefully) prevent the buffer filling up whilst shooting at 8fps. I would have thought he 30MB/s will be fine for everyday stuff.

You'll love it when it arrives. :)

Best thing to do when you get it is this:

Unwrap it.
Put the battery on charge.
Put the kettle on.
Read the manual.
Make another cuppa 'cos the battery won't be fully charged.
Make a sandwich.
Read the manual again (especially the bits concerning the focus modes).
Put the battery back in and get out and have a play! :D

Above all else though, have fun!

Daft question to 7d owners, the viewfinder eyepiece is very loose and wobbly, is it the same on yours??
 
There is a bit of play in mine too but I don't think it's a problem. Compared to some earlier XXD models the eyepiece clicks into place very securely, so you're unlikely to lose it.
 
Thanks mate, thought that was the case. I can remember losing one on my 350d whilst on holiday a few years ago, ended up super gluing the replacement.
 
I lost 2 or 3 on the 20D. If in doubt just stick a thin strip of double - sided carpet tape underneath it. It wont be going anywhere and you can still get it off if you need to.

The viewfinder cup wobbles a bit on mine as well but I only just noticed that it'll only come off if you pinch the sides together... I yanked mine about a few times before I spotted the lines on the edge that you're supposed to squeeze to get it off! :D

I had quite the opposite feel with the eyepiece on mine. It is very secure indeed and feels as if it's almost welded on. Very different compared to the 400D which I lost a couple for as they slip of very easily, especially when putting it into the bag.

IT's wobbly on mine too....although definitely quite secure in place.....just wobbly
 
I got a 60Mb/s sandisk, its only 0.2 second slower at emptying the buffer verses the 90Mb/s, according to tests, you have to be selective regarding "machine gun" bursts, and question if you really need to keep that finger on the trigger, I go for 1/2 second approx bursts whilst panining, and find there is generally enough in reserve to capture the immediate, unmissable and unforeseen shots. Its galling when its an obvious must have shot and there is no lead in your pencil. You will need to make friends with the 7 and respect its' nobility, because it will cut you dead if you don't, it demands understanding hands on its body, but will reward 100X being worked with familiarity.
SHOW IT SOME UNDERSTANDING AND IT WILL PERFORM LIKE YOU OWN ITS SOUL.

im using ultra 2 15mb/s cards with no problems, not even opened my manual.:D
 
I've had mine a few days and only got half way through the manual!


I've not actually had time to take any pics yet so can I ask what version of LR I need to be able to load 7D RAW files.

Also is a firmware update worth it on the 7D or should I wait and get used to it first? (I have no idea how to do the update anyway!)
