7D - is £50 difference worth it for UK spec?

Have set up a payment to Kerso to leave my bank account tomorrow for a 7D at a price of £1119, which includes £20 delivery.

Today, I've just seen that Curry's are doing it at £1169, once you apply the SPRING10 promotional code which gives you 10% off their normal price of £1299.

So question is, it is worth spending the extra £50 for a UK model? I appreciate that there's no difference in spec between a US and UK model and that Canon will support bodies that Kerso sells - was thinking more about potential re-sale value if I ever decide to sell it on. I can also pay by CC and get some airmiles if I buy from Curry's. :D

So what do you think?
 
quidco says that there aren't any 'compatible vouchers at this time' - does that mean that you can't apply spring10 and still get quidco cashback?
 
having looked at a number of other retailers on quidco, it would seem that you can't combine spring10 and quidco cashback.

so assuming that you can't, that brings me back to my original question of whether or not it's worth spending the extra £50 just to get a UK body
 
From anybody other than Kerso, it's best to buy british as I have found out this past week or so with my 7D, but with kerso he is a genuine trader on here and Ebay so I doubt you will have no porblems at all. Besides he issues a uk invoice which i believe is honoured by the USA warranty the camera comes with.

Bodies have Canon USA warranty valid in UK with UK invoice provided

Sorry just re read you original thread and I personally would be cautious of buying a second hand grey market body. This to me would affect the price I would pay if I would consider it at all. If I were to consider it I would want to see an original invoice plus have this supplied and possibly get the body serviced before parting with the cash. This is just my opinion others may feel differently.
 
thanks wingnut - does anyone else have similar reservations about buying 2nd hand grey imports?
 
I bought my camera in the UK a week before a trip to the US, the camera was cheaper to buy over there by about £50 I decided it was worth the extra to have the opertunity to take the thing back to the shop if it failed rather than mess with a US warrenty and the camera I bought would have been badged T1i not 500D so that was also in my thoughts. But I have bought 3 lenses from Kerso so far and can't beat the service.
 
my 450D is actually an Japanese import KissX2 that I bought off eBay, however when I bought it I didn't know that Canon wouldn't support it here if anything went wrong with it. I was just getting into SLR photography so wasn't wise on this.

That being said and I'm not sure if luck's got anything to do with it, but it has been superb from the offset, so I never had to rely on any support. :thumbs:

My brother's having it off me, so no problem with selling this particular one on. But the 7D might be a different kettle of fish - not that I'm even thinking of selling it - haven't even got it yet!!

£50 is only £3 less than a new battery of Kerso so I would just go for it and get a spare battery of him at the same time.
 
I'd buy from Ian, don't think it will affect the resale value.

slightly OT but how many shots can I expect on average from a battery?
 
Canon will honor Kerso's receipt etc. As already mentioned, buy it from Kerso and get an extra battery too.

LOL Im not sure as I am allways messing with it but I would think 800+ with not a lot of messing.
 
thanks - I will probably be OK with 1 battery as I can get approx 600 shots from the batteries for my 450D and have never needed to use 2 in the same day. Guess I'm not taking enough pics! :bonk:
 
Does the 7D come with the US plug built into the charger, or is it just a figure of 8 type lead?
 
If Canon will accept Kerso's receipt for warranty repairs, I'd be happy enough for it with a body.

The only other thing I would suggest to watch out for is to take a copy of your UK receipt from Kerso with you if you take the camera abroad.

There's always the chance that some eagle-eyed Customs official would be able to identify it as a US model and attempt charge you VAT when you re-enter the country. Less likely with a 7D than a Digital Kiss, I know...

Mind you, this applies even to 'genuine' UK-bought items. My brother had this problem bringing his work laptop back into the country after a business visit to the US. I think they managed to settle it with a call to Oracle's HQ in Reading before they got to the point of his paying up or confiscation.
 
I was under the impression that Canon would only honour warranty on imported lenses but not on bodies?

lenses have international warranty, bodies do not.

However Kerso's receipts believe, from memory, that duty and VAT etc have been paid upon import and as such Canon UK will honour the warranty as it has been not imported to avoid these
 
I bought by 50D secondhand on here, with the previous buyer having bought it from Kerso. I have to say I couldn't have cared less where it originated, the Canon UK will still deal with it if it's in warranty, and if it isn't then it really doesn't matter where it's come from. (in fact, it was from Alistair, the poster above me :wave: :D)

But it's your money, and your call! So to answer the question, for me, no. But for you, maybe?

Ian a is a top bloke, my 50D and 24-105L recently came from him.
A major saving for me and peace of mind knowing that Canon UK will deal with any warranty issues should a need for a claim arise.
