Ebay one isn't genuine. Or at least the images, and description does not confirm authenticity.

But in the product description here, it calls it the Canon BG-E7 ...

Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip is specially designed for Canon EOS 7D. The Canon BG-E7 can hold two LP-E6 batteries to increase battery life, enabling up to 2,000 shots. Use of AA batteries is allowed when use along with the Battery Magazine BGM-E6. Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip features a battery case with dust and water resistant.

Look at the two images, and the Canon site. The Jessops one has Canon branding all over the top of the battery grip, the ebay one doesn't.

The eBay listing doesn't say you are bidding on a BG-E7, just tells you what it does.

If a price is too good to be true, its often not genuine. There is no way there will be so much variation in price on genuine items of current stock.

The eBay one is actually specified as a "battery grip for Canon EOS 7d DSLR" in the product title. A subtle yet often clever way for those selling non branded items pass them off to people who think they're branded.

If it was a genuine item, the ebay seller would have listed it as "Canon BGE7 battery grip for Canon EOS 7D DSLR.

I'll also bet that the box it comes in looks virtually identical to a canon one, except next to the canon logo it'll say "for" in a much smaller font size. I've bought non genuine lens hoods, to me a genuine lens hood isn't worth the extra cost as the structure is identical, but for something such as a battery grip it may be worth spending a little extra...

Firstly, please, I am not argueing with anyone BUT :D

Where it says what's included it says ....

Vertical Battery Grip BG-E7 for Canon EOS 7D x1

User Manual x1

Battery Magazine x1

I am fully aware of 'if something sounds to good to be true it probably is, I've been telling my better half that for years!'

This intrigues more than anything.

to be honest the third party grips are not much different in operation (at least the bge2 for the xxd arent - ive not got a 7D) , so theres no reason not to save money by buying third party - that said that particular ebay trader doesnt sound particularly honest so you might want to give him a swerve , but people like hahnel are worth a look

I've noted you can't ask them a question about it, that's odd isn't it?

Yeah but nowhere on that ebay page do you see the phrase "Genuine" and if it were and at that price that is something that I would be stressing if I were selling a Genuine item..

Look at the photo's not once does it show Canon on the grip where as the top of the genuine OEM grip looks like this

Well done that man thanks, that's the evidence!

Well that ebay bloke is either selling a Canon BG-E7 or he's not? If he's not then how can say 'one is included in the envelope?'

As it blatantly is not a Canon BG-E7!

I'd say cleverly worded ebay add and is a third party product and not genuine canon
he is using the canon product ID for the 7d Canon BG-E7 to state it fits that model
he doesn't state anywhere it is a genuine canon product as it clearly isn't
It will probably be fine though albeit I find third party non branded batteries to be pants
I have Meike 7d third party grip for my 7d and it is fine and the quality is excellent

"They both appear to be genuine Canon products."

In item description it mentions as being "compatible"

Near the bottom of the page it states "no questions have been asked"

With Ebay one has to read the description wording carefully.
I have been caught out before. Once only though thank goodness.

By the way, a number of third party manufacturers are highly regarded.

I use a Meike-branded grip with my 650d and at £22, it's a steal.

There are tons of favourable reviews online, so it might be worth a try if you feel like saving a few quid.

That said, the ebay item you linked to looks to be the same as this one on Amazon.

I've had 6 Canon bodies from a 550D right through to a 5D3 and I've had 3rd party grips on all the bodies I've had and never had a problem with any of them. They have all reported the battery level correctly and performed excellently out in the field. I saved enough by buying 3rd party for a 550D, 7D and 5D2 that I was able to buy a second hand Canon 70-200 f4 L non IS lens. I personally cannot see the point of spending all the rest of the money for no extra performance.

I second that. ever had a single, be it the battery or the remote control (mine ame with its own remote control but I had a canon one so it does not matter).
