Don't ask me how but I've managed to scratch the focusing sensor on my few month old 7D.

I want to get it repaired on site as being without it for a month to send it away terrifies me.

I live in Bromley and work in London Victoria. Does anyone know if anywhere I can go to that will repair it while I wait??

Mods - apologies if this is in the wrong section - feel free to move where you see fit.

Thanks

Jo

Do you mean the focusing screen or the sensor ?

If it's just the focusing screen you can do it yourself, it unclips and is repalceable with an easily purchased screen.

No it isn't. The 7D has a special focussing screen that is not designed to be user-exchangeable. Fixation should be able to do it in a day or two, and as they're in Vauxhall you can deliver and pick up in person.

Great thanks guys. Will give them a call

If thats the screen thats got a problem as the above shows it is user replaceable and is the one I meant.

Dont pay for someone to do what you can does yourself with a little care.

Thank you. Will have a look

I don't understand why a problem with the focusing sensor has turned into a discussion about the focusing screen. If my car runs out of fuel would you recommend I add air to the tyres as a remedy?

I would also check with Canon first, seeing that your camera is still under warranty, if you do any repairs yourself or with third parties, it may invalidate your warranty.

Thanks guys - I've given Fixation a call and they can repair it on site with me waiting for it (phew!!) - was being told by some that I would have to send it away for a month or so. As Fixation are only 10 mins down the road from where I work it seems a perfect solution.

When they took me through the details it turns out it was the screen that I'd damaged and not the sensor - so everything you have all put down here has been very helpful and I thank you very much. It was my fault for getting it wrong in the first place.

I do need to check with Canon that it won't void the warranty - that will be a call for today/tomorrow before I go to Fixation.

Thanks all again

Jo

It won't void your warranty if you don't bother telling them.

The fault you have is nothing to do with the camera itself, the screen is supposed to be interchangeable with different types thats why Canon sell them :D

Not for the 7D.

Being as you're getting it fixed by an official Canon repair centre, I can't see how it could.

Thanks guys. You've all been great and very helpful

It's been fixed, by Fixation, for minimal cost while I wait an no voiding the warranty. My fiancée took it in for me today and they did it while he waited. He's banned me from going in there through fear of me spending a fortune!!!

Thanks all

Jo
