7D Batteries is there a cheaper version?

I got two Opteka ones for my 450D, they seem fine - try them?

7D batteries are chipped. I'm not aware of any that work with the Canon charger so ended up getting another Canon as a spare.

They give a indection via the lcd, but you can also get a battery level in a % terms via the menus. Find my battery last for around 1200 shots and being left on stand by for most of the day.

I have two in my gripped 7D... I just checked the battery meter and I've taken 836 shots and still have 45% charge remaining.

Hope that helps to give some idea.

Damn, thing must be bad!

You have spent £1200 at least on the body and you can't stretch to £55 for a spare battery?

The only aftermarket batteries I could find require a different charger, and the reviews aren't great.

It does annoy me that decent xxD compatible batteries can be picked up for under £10, but genuine ones are many times that in price.

My Opteka ones for the 450D both work in the Canon charger.

I purchased one of these for my 7D from Ebay. I got it as an emergency backup and have used it once or twice without problems. It does not show remaining charge on the LCD, but I am not going to spend £60 on an official battery that will sit unused 99% of the time. They probably cost Canon a fiver to make.

If you regularly shoot 100's of shots per day buy an official battery. If it is for emergency backup this works fine.

Fixes
- Fixes issues related to poor quality third party batteries.
- Added code for upcoming remotes, accessories and lenses.

Soon 3rd party batteries may be a more viable option if this firmware does show battery level remaining using them in the 7D. We'll have to wait and see I suppose.

£1099 actually :)

Also i saved and sold a load of stuff to afford it, and still at school i earn £38 a week so thats nearly 2 weeks wages which at the moment i can't afford.
I will be able to afford it soon enough but i need it for next week which is why i was after a cheaper alternative.

I have a 3rd party grip (5D2) and run one canon battery and a 3rd party battery. This shows the battery power since the canon battery is there (have to put it in first). Gets round buying a stupidly overpriced canon battery
