Has anyone had a problem with a filter affecting focusing, ie making images oof?

If its a really really low quality filter then the glass element could distort the light as it passes through - but even cheap ones have no noticable effect - or so in my experience.

its a hoya pro1d, always had it on my lens, but was getting occasional oof shots, my old man suggested taking it off - so went out with it last weekend and didnt have one oof? Just seemed weird.

If its a pro level filter I shouldn't expect it to be producing out of focus shots - did you shoot in different conditions recently?

Perhaps do some regulated tests - set your camera up on a tripod and focus to infinity, then switch to auto and let it find the focus on an object placed quite close - see if the images are any different.

i used pro1d uv filters until recently without a problem, try cleaning the filter and the lens

Quite surprised that no-one has mention/asked if it was purchased from ebay...

 Then again that will prob be asked sooner or later - along with an answer being along the lines of "its a cheap version" filter.....

Did you buy it on the FleaBay? ;)

Even at that it would have to be made of perspex to affect AF and IQ alot, people on here use welding glass as a flter after all

Focus problems are unlikely, but filters can and do cause other problems that can look very similar.

There have been a few threads about filter problems recently - search my user name and also Arkady :D

Oh...Dear God...No-ooooooooooooooooooo.....

sorry - it's still early...

Focussing, no, but there are other things to watch out for when using filters that you should be aware of - as Hoppy says, do a search as this has been covered too many times to go throuigh it all again - the arguments and discussions run over about 50 pages by now, I should think...

A friend of mine had a problem with his Nikon D300 recently with focusing issues,
After a mirror box clean, worked 100%,

was just dust on the focusing sensor (never heard of before)
