Any one use / have opinions on either of the following 70-300mm lenses?

Tamron SP 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens - Nikon AF vs Nikon AF-S VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED Lens

Around £100 -£150 difference in price and read so many reviews I'm now even more confused!

Will be used on a Nikon D7100.

Any opinions greatly appreciated

cheers

The Tamron is superb. Save the cash and put it towards a trip to use it on. The VC is so unbelievably good that it makes getting sharp shots at slow shutter speeds a doddle. I have never been impressed with Nikons VR system. Even on their flagship 70-200 f2.8 vr2 i felt it was poor.

I use the Tamron on Canon FF and find it to be superb. It actually replaced my Canon 70-300L which was a bit too heavy and white to lug around.

In terms of handling I very slightly preferred the Nikon.

In terms of VR the Tamron works considerably better but it's also louder.

In terms of final image produced I wouldn't be able to to tell which lens was used as they're that similar. You won't regret either, besides the aperture they perform like much more expensive lenses.

to make the decision even more difficult, the difference in price can be as little as £30.

HDEW are selling the Nikon for £279 with one year warranty.

The Tamron is £249 frolm a number of retailers with 5 year warranty.

Does it really make any difference? UK lens will still only have one year warranty . I wouldn't hesitate buying from a HDEW who are based in the UK and have a pretty good reputation as a search of these forums will show.

One could, of course, buy a 'grey' Tamron but it wouldn't come with the five year warranty. HDEW don't list the Tamron, but Digital Rev do - at £239, so for £10 more and four years extra warranty I don't think it would be worth considering anything but a UK model.

I'm Canon user but the tamron is great up to about 280mm - the long end final IQ isn't great imo. Not sure if others have the same view?

Thanks all....backed up my own thoughts, Tamron it is.

Shame that jessops are a pile of poo in the service front as they were my only local pay and collect. Tinternet here we come

Another vote for the Tamron after owning both. I prefered the output of the Tamron, they seemd to have more pop.

Waiting for the Sigma 150-600mm C to come out and will probably get another Tamron for going out and about, the above Wex offer is good.

Anyone able to comment on the bokeh differences...like to try some portraits with one of these llenses

Ive not long returned from safari and used the Tamron 70 - 300m https://flic.kr/s/aHsk9oLz1Q

Image quality is great and VC is amazing... though is definitely noisy!! It did hunt abit @300mm but that may have been down to the light conditions etc for the price its a great lens and i read a ton of reviews before getting mine.

The Tamron really does look good for the money, nice and sharp. I was hovering over buying one a couple of years ago but went for a second hand Sigma 70-200 instead. That said i still hanker for one of these for the extra reach :)

One thing to bear in mind is that the Nikon is weather sealed however, which could be an important factor to some. I remember thinking the bokeh was better on the Nikon too from my research, but that's subjective anyway so you can make your own mind up :)

I've never used either so i would listen to the guys above, they have a better understanding than me
