70-200F4L now, or hold on for 70-200F4L IS

IS mode 2 works great for motorsport and on the sidelines at football. I have seen many people comment that there is no point in using IS for moving targets but that is not true. It does depend on the type of moving target you shoot, but mode 2 can provide 1-2 stops of real gain. Personally, I think IS is worth the extra money for weather sealing and slightly improved IQ alone. I am happy to take shots in light rain with my 7D/70-200IS combo. I would not do this with an unsealed lens such as my 17-55mm.
 
ive never ever shot in the rain, just couldnt do it even if i was told it was safe to do so. as soon as theres even a spit its back in the bag untill it stops, so the weather sealing although a nice extra isnt essential.

Not sure how sealed my 40D is anyway. never looked into it lol!

The IS is a gain i would agree a nice extra, but to more than double the price (excluding the amazon deal) its just too much.

From the images ive seen from the non IS, I cant say to my eye, unless pixel peeping the IS IQ would be worth the extra investment.
 
I'd love an IS lens, got the normal f4 version.

One thing to bear in mind though, IS won't keep a moving target still (people etc)
