I've just upgraded my camera to an A7, from an Nex-6, and with that I need to buy a full frame E mount adapter...

I current;y have a Sigma 105mm f2.8 and Tamron 70-200 F2.8 on A mount. The Sigma is lovely, but doesn't get used very often as the zoom is a lot more practical. Equally, the tamron is very soft wide open and I find auto focus a bit clumsy with the adapter (Sony SLT adapter).

My question is, am I better off saving the money I need to spend on the full frame adapter, selling the two lenses and buying the Sony FE 70-200 F4?

Would it be considerably worse than the 105 prime? Will the F4 max aperture be a noticeable problem?

All opinions welcome!

Thanks

Many folk differing opinions on this. I had the Sony A77 mii with the Tamron 70-200mm I really liked the lens but when I bought the A7 mii I sold it and have ordered the Sony FE 70-200mm f4 for me I just never wanted to carry adapters

I have some A mount lenses and adaptor but find that the native FE lenses work best in terms of focus speed and functionality. For example only E mount works with Bracket Pro app on focus bracketing.

I can't comment on the tamron lens you mention but find the FE 70-200 is nearly as sharp as my Sigma 105 macro though it does not offer very close focus so it can't replace it for a lot of my work.

The Tamron lens you have is very sharp at f4 though, sharper I'd wager than the Sony at f4. If you can live with adaptors you have a great lens there.
