Hi
Thinking of getting a 70-200 f2.8 for 1dmk11n
I'd love the canon mk11 but realistically it's beyond my budget at the moment
Anyone got any views on the sigma or tamron sp 70-200 f2.8

Thanks
Chris

Interested in this too. Not just because of cost, but because they don't stand out like a sore thumb. Black is better than white IMO.

I've owned the Sigma version, the older type not the OS version and for the money it was very very good. Not as sharp as my Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS lens but considering the cost difference I wouldn't expect it. I believe the new OS version is very good so have a look at that.
Regarding the Tamron I know it's sharp but is slower focussing than the Sigma. Many many moons ago I had the manual focus version and it was brilliant, very sharp and produced superb images.

I have the Sigma, it's suburb. Very fast AF, very sharp.

You will find loads of posts on it if you use the search function.

You can get lens coat for pretty much any long lens. That stands out even less, but I'd rather wave the stripes when out and about

Lol I seen that, but I'd rather have a black 2.8, that a covered up 4....if it was just as sharp and fast to focus.

Just as sharp as an f/4 IS? Good luck with that.

You can look into finding an old Canon 80-200f/2.8L Magic drainpipe but they're awfully rare nowadays so you'll need to look hard. Absolutely stunning lenses.

And probably not serviced by Canon anymore either I expect?

The sigma OS HSM 2.8 is very good and £700 compared to the IS canon 2.8 at £1800 and Personally I can't find a 1k difference in image quality the only difference is the canon lens pretty much indestructible

Agreed! This lens performs flawlessly on a 36mp D800. For the difference in image quality between this and the Nikon variant versus the difference in price I couldn't justify it. Just make sure if you decide to go for it to thoroughly test AF accuracy!
