I wanted a timer remote to do some star trails photography but considered the Canon one a bit too pricey for what it was, so I found this one on 7DS for £15.99

7DSMQTC1 Timer Remote

Just had a play and it does what it says on the tin

Then I noticed it is an exact copy of the Nikon MC-36,

Should I be worried, are Nikon in a global plot to infect by the back door all the undesireable Canon kit in a quest for world digi SLR domination?? :D

Yes and Yes.

It's the Phottix remote interval timer.. I think I've seen this exact same model with about twelve different "manufacturers" labels on it. I hadn't seen this generic Chinese remote branded by Nikon before though.. ..

The only short-coming it has is that there is no off-switch.. saying that, the LCD isn't going to run-down the batteries in much of a hurry, but if you're worried by this sort of thing it's easy enough to put a plastic shim between a battery and its terminal.

BTW, I have two.. I lost the first, couldn't be without it (it's very useful) and ordered a second. Sod's law, I then found the first - just as well, the second hasn't been of the same build quality and has a dodgy connection somewhere.
