6x6? I think that what i want.....

You. don't think someone is trying to tell you something Lee? ;)

Quite possibly Roger :ROFLMAO:

@LeeRatters keep the faith, one like the one I sold last year will turn up.

I did think about others. But some are obviously above the rough budget I have for it - which does appear to be growing :ROFLMAO: - so are out of the equation. A lot of other Yashica TLR's seem to lack the range of shutter speeds etc And then there are the lesser known models which again seem to lack some features. I know if I got something else and spent (for example) £150 instead of £220 for a 124g and saved myself £70, I would regret it at a later date......

The most annoying thing is....

The first one was in great condition - mouldy and broken shutter.
The second had been serviced by a company and had a sticky shutter. Very sticky shutter - I've a 1/500th shutter video clip and the shutter takes about 5 seconds to close......
The third was in great condition, sold by a collector and was fully working with clear elements..... I thought buying from a collector/enthusiast would be a good bet.

I'm not saying what the fourth one says..... :ROFLMAO:

What about putting here in the "items wanted list" ? There might be a digi guy to doesn't bother looking in this forum but has what you want.

UPDATE!!

Today's delivery is looking promising. Really good condition with a hard case, Yashica UV filter, lens cap, cable release & even the original instruction booklet. Everything seems to be pretty clean and clear [focus screen has a few little specks] and smooth but the light meter isn't working  But, I put a volt meter on the battery & it's reading zero..... So, new one ordered.

The other thing, which I didn't notice/can't remember from the other ones please...... Does the hood open fully upright? ie 90 degrees vertical? If you look from the side of the camera when open, it tapers in narrower at the top? I think that's normal, but I can't remember

Hope this one works out for you Lee, as for the hood, mine tilts slightly back when open.

That's good to read. I thought so, but had a doubt!

I'm not sure whether to rush a roll through this weekend and try to get it finished/developed/scanned? Or just wait until holiday in a weeks time & put a few rolls through? :ROFLMAO:

It does appear to be good though. And I still want to try to sort some sort of ND filter. The Yashica bayonet UV filter has a thread on the front which looks to be about 35mm [or 34.5mm]?? My verniers aren't here....

If it's a commercial purchase with a 14 day possible return, I'd be running a film through it this weekend, especially given your recent experiences Lee.

Photographique are usually next day as standard

Get it done then, otherwise you might be disappointed after your holiday and effectively lugged a paerweight about - you need to know before you go.

(Obviously holidays can be very expensive especially if there are camera dealers nearby.................................. :ROFLMAO: )

I don't think there's any camera dealers along the south coast where we're heading :ROFLMAO:

I'll be taking more cameras than clothes anyway :)

Always put a test roll through, I usually go to Manchester, shoot a roll in the morning, put film into Advanced Photo Services, go and have some lunch, collect developed film, go home and scan - do you have anywhere near you that offers a 1-2 hour developing service?
:agree:

I hope it goes well, it will certainly be a learning experience and a completely new type of photography.

I started off by using 3 x Rolliflexes, a standard, wide-angle and tele model, with a Rollicord as a backup, this was in the early 60's - I wasn't rich but I was an employed trainee photographer at the time, so they were owned by the firm.

Later on, I bought a Mamiya C330 (from memory) with various lenses, that was a superb TLR, I then moved to a SLR, a Hassleblad, but it jammed up from time to time so I replaced it with a RZ67, which did everything that the Hassie did, but better and more reliability. I used it mainly for fashion photography, I had 2 spare backs and an assistant whose job it was to re-load them as I shot.

The Yashicamat was a capable camera, but very much a poor relation, don't expect too much from it. It was however streets ahead of the Chinese Seagull, I once knew the man who ran the Seagull factory, and we had a very good conversation, through a translator, an interesting man - but I couldn't share his enthusiasm for the cameras he made:)

Nice experiences :)

I think that's why I've stuck looking for a 124. I think I said earlier in the thread, a lot of the other cheaper cameras lack some features, and have a lack of shutter speeds, or are slower, no bulb mode and things like that etc and the Rollei stuff is too pricey for what I want. The 124 just seems a nice looking, nice preforming, very popular TLR.

I've been buying through ebay (I couldn't really find any dealer ones) which isn't an issue because I've been clicking "not as described" and returning them. It's a bit inconvenient and frustrating, but I'm only one return postage out of pocket.

This one now though is certainly the best I've seen - fingers crossed! I'll get some photos up of it later, use it at a local 40's show tomorrow - Dig For Victory Show - and I've also got the images from the hazy/lens separation one I returned to share too soon.

I've had very similar experiences, I've bought 2 separate camcorders via eBay, neither even worked at all and I had to return them. But eventually I bought one that's fine, it's just part of the shortcomings of buying unseen.

I live a couple of miles from the sea in Hove, so south coast. I don't know what part of the south you're going to, but one of the two local dealers here who sell film cameras has currently three YashicaMats for sale, starting at £190, if you're interested. (The other dealer doesn't have - when I last checked - a proper list of what they have available on line.)

I've bought from them many times over the years, and they've always been reliable. Just in case you get stuck again... But let's hope not.

I did actually see those sorry, but there's literally no information on the items they sell.

And we're actually going to Devon so I shouldn't spend anything.

Mifsuds is an absolute Aladdin's cave, in a great holiday location. There's also SoPerfectImages in Plymouth, that's where my MX came from. Top bloke, worked with me on a "repair or trade" deal on my previous MX over a period of months, all the gear warrantied and AFAIK CLAd. Plymouth could aolso be a good holiday destination...

Update II :)

New battery got the light meter working one stop over which isn't an issue.

One roll through today at the Dig For Victory 40's/Wartime show - no apparent issues & managed to drop the roll off for dev/scan about 15 minutes before they closed :) Should be back with me sometime Monday! :) I do need to sort some sort of step ring set up for an ND though - I was shooting around f/16 today on 200 film and my remaining film is 200, 400 & 800!!

Fingers crossed this time Lee. (y)

Well, in advance of seeing the scans, I've bought an Amazon 34mm - 37mm step ring which fits the bayonet 1 Yashica filter it came with.

I now just need to decide on a 3 stop ND or a variable 1-5 stop ND?? I think that's Amazon too so any returns won't be an issue, but I'm still going to order after seeing the scans just in case. But I need it delivered by Thursday night as we're on holiday Friday :ROFLMAO: I'm tempted with just the straight 3 stop though rather than risking any side effects of the variable that I won't even know about.

I’ve used 3 stop ND a lot on my GM670, found it flexible enough for most bright light scenes, last summer though I did resort to a 6 stop ND when shooting Portra400 wide open in bright sunlight - personally I’d go for the 3 stop

I have a rolliflex sitting unused in my collection, the mirror it filthy but would give you a chance to try a twin lens before you go out and spend your hard earned money and if you end up anywhere near J17 of the M4

The 4th Yashica 124g seems to be on the button. Thanks anyway though :)
