hi i recenty purchased a canon 650d and took some shots in raw on uploading said shots to computer i found out i could`nt open them in windows 7 live gallery or adobe elements 10 has anyone else had this prob or got a solution that could be of help to me please

thats the trouble nick it won,t let me send them to elements 10 from dpp
 
Hi Try opening in dpp. Convert and save as tif.Send to Photoshop if you want to work on them. Or as jpeg and send to windows gallery.

I'm pretty sure the last update for elements 10 doesn't cover the 650d (I might be wrong) Off hand I don't think even the latest dng converter will do them I'm afraid.
 
According to Adobe's support pages you need version 7.1 of the camera raw plugin for 650D RAW files - Elements 10 only supports up to version 6.7. Long and short is that with the currently available versions you can't directly load 650D RAW's into Elements 10.

It's a case of using DPP to create a TIFF or JPEG and then opening that in Elements.
 
And the CODECs listed - the Microsoft one and the Canon ones allow RAW's to be viewed natively in Windows Explorer as various size icons and as pictures in the Viewer (both of which are dead handy so it's worth using these) - but won't automatically make RAW files accessible to applications like Elements.

And the Canon one only works with 32bit versions of Windows - not 64bit. The MS seems pretty good from using it - snag is - currently 650D not shown as supported...........
