I have just bought a Mamiya 645 pro. It has a standard 80mm lens, which i find the focus ring to be quite loose, i suspect this is from use, but is there a way to tighten it up ?

I would like to get a 55-110 N lens, is this a good lens, would i be better getting an 80mm N lens, if there is such a thing ?

Any help and advice please

I think the differences between the N and C series are minimal. The main "improvement" was changing some of the construction to plastic... lighter but easier to break. I wouldn't change from a C series lens to an identical N series lens. The focusing might just be a case of tightening some screws - but don't quote me on that.

The zoom is a nice lens, but they are quite big and heavy. stick to a couple of primes unless you really need the flexibility. :)

Thank you very much for your reply Nick. I will certainly have a look for some good prime lenses.

I thought the " N " lenses would have been an improvement over the " C " lenses, but like everything, when any manufacturer brings out a new version of something, it's never as good as the original.

Thanks again

is the the 80mm f/1.9 or 2.8? Anyway, i have the 2.8 and i'm looking for a nice, cheap 45mm f/2.8 for some landscapes.. I have no experience with the zoom.. i guess it depends what you're planning on using it for..

Having over time gathered most of the 645 primes together I find myself looking at a set of relatively large and heavy lenses and thinking that maybe, just maybe, a zoom would provide a bit more flexibilty for a day of walkabout and avoid the need to carry a bagful of primes:bang::bang:
