Hi gang.. thank you for the responses. I'm trying not to get upset with some of the feedback. (but I clearly am)

Regarding the knife.... In America... at least in Ohio.. ALL forks/knives/spoons/etc... are called silverware. We call it a silverware drawer. It doesn't have to be just 'silver'... even the big serving spoons and forks are called silverware. So you can see... different places of the world call things different. You can't assume everything is called the same. Soo... I purposely put the knife in the picture because it is part of the silverware drawer!

Regarding the lighting... The bulb in our kitchen has a diffusing shade on it... So the bulb was as diffused as it can get. I was running out of time and wanted to submit 'something' so I did the best I could with my situation and lighting.

Please note.. This is supposed to be a FUN challenge for me. I realize people have their own opinions on things... but... I was always taught... "If you can't say anything nice.. then don't say anything at all!" Just because I post something doesn't mean you HAVE to find something critical about it. If I ASK for your opinion... then yes.. give it... But I didn't ask. This is just for FUN!

If I continue to get upset every time I post a photo... I will discontinue this challenge!

Ooooops ! Didn't mean to cause any upset. Comments noted. :(

Very clean and tidy shot for order, bang on theme.

I like that Mary.
Colours look good, lighting is appropriate, sharp focus on the face, with shallow DoF directing the eye.
I also like the tight, almost square, crop. I think it suits the image avoiding background distractions.

Looking at that comb kitty should be bald :D, very hairy and I like the old wooden handled comb too. (y)

Good idea for the theme, Mary, it fits right in.

I might have gone for more depth of field to all of the hair on the comb in focus and get more detail in the background but it's a good idea for the theme

I like that you can make out the cat in the background. I think that's one malty cat, better that the hairs in the comb than on the sofa :D

Blimey, that's a lot of hair. Not sure our puddy tat would have any left with that much off. Presumably youes is a long haired model.
Nicely on theme, and a nice touch to include your cat out of focus in the background (y)

Thank you everyone... sorry late with responses... Kittie looooooooves comb... she comes in my office and DEMANDs to be combed... There's a photo of her for previous week laying on our bed. She's not got too long of hair... just likes it combed... a... LOT! lol.

Reflection shots can be awkward, getting the focus where you want it, but you seem to have done it nicely, and as David says, some interesting objects in the image (I do like the face on the Vase?)

Well on theme, IMHO.......BG distracts a bit, and comp maybe would have worked a little better if moved to the RHS. just minor things really.:)
NOPE.. for the salt one... it's EXACTLY how ...I... like it! I composed it this way on purpose... no matter WHAT I post... SOMEONE always complains... so I'm doing this challenge for ME and no one else. IMHO

I like it too, the grains of salt are nice and sharp and the salt shaker and background leave one in no doubt what it is.

IMHO.....I'd hardly call it complaining, but if thats what you call it i won't complain any more.:)

Nice composition, like the background and sharpness of the grains in the front [emoji4]

I would have shot just a touch wider on the rhs to include an even amount of the salt mountain, other than that nicely put together.

Nobody complains on here they just have different views. It's not my first 52 but not completed one yet but on several occasions honest and open critique has led me to improve my submissions.

Enjoy yourself but keep an open mind.

hard to see what's in focus, I know it's difficult to focus on salt. (I tried it yesterday).o_O

I like the idea of this one, and think generally the background compliments the foreground well, couldn't be better theme wise imho :)

Please do not take it this way, we encourage people to give there honest opinion of images :)

They are not criticisms and can be taken on board or not, we all know not everybody will like an image and if they suggest something it is not a complaint.

These suggestions at times give the photographer a different perspective on how others see it, and at times give an 'Ahhhh I didn't think of that' moments :)

Wrong side of the bed??

I have to say, if you are doing the project "for ME and no one else." not sure why you are posting

If you post a photograph not everyone is going to like it. If everyone liked my posted photograph I'd not be happy because people are different.

Anyhoo, WB is a little off. For me, I really like the BG and wish it was more prominent.

Have a nice day ;)

Cheers

Well... all of Mary's photos have been removed which is a shame, as photography for me is meant to be fun and to learn about new ways, ideas and techniques. I guess Mary just wanted 'I kike that' comments, maybe a Facebook feed would be a more suitable audience

Yes, shame Mary felt that way but I left well alone after her very first tirade. Strange she should have taken umbrage from a community that is so very friendly and encouraging. I for one am very appreciative of all the help and advice I get here - such an important developmental aid ... and all for free !!! Oh dear, what a shame, never mind ... let's get over the WHOLE sad affair.
