Is the slight expense more of the 7d worth it in real world use for an amateur ?

depends what you want to shoot, i do a lot of moving spaniels so the 8 Fps so it was worth it to me

I love my 60d, though I bought 5d ii as I wanted full frame, but the 60d still gets used as the 15-85 efs lens is a cracker.

The 7d is faster, though I've never found the 60d to be slow so it's not an issue for me.
AF is better, though again, I've never had a problem with the 60d as I tend to do mainly portraits and fashion and the odd landscape. The swivel screen is really useful for lots of things and the image quality is great, so it's the 60d for me.........

If you are serious about photography and are prepared to put in considerable time and effort to learn how to use it, the 7D will reward your efforts.

Anyone got a 60d that can comment on the buttons? Are they as bad as he makes out?

I've got the 60d and I've got no issues with the buttons whatsoever. What type of issues are you referring to? For me the tilt screen is a must. It was novel at first but now I find myself using it more times than not.

I have a 60d and a 7d No issue with buttons however the little joystick on 7d is probably easier to change focus points with.

My 60d is my walk about camera the tilt screen is great and very handy.

My 7d is used more for wildlife /equestrian being that bit faster more AF choices.

As said it all depends on you and what you want to take and if you are prepared to spend time learning the 7d to use it to its full potential. hence the price.

If money a big contender or time learning then you wont be disapointed if you go 60d

I don't think there was a button issue in the DR test what he said is they felt wishy washy and he preferred the buttons on the 550d and the 7d that's all
I've read reviews and posts that say the 60d has better image quality despite it using the same sensor as the 7d
never had a 60 d myself so can't comment

I would go into a shop and have a play with both cameras and see what you like
The 7D is better for shooting moving objects and I prefer the controls on the 7D:)

I preferred the 7D buttons when I had both, the 60D buttons felt squishy to me. Both are nice the 7D just feels a much nicer camera in my hands, you need to hold both though as others have said, tilt screen is nice though.

OT: Is that a RZ350 LCPete?

I bought the 60D earlier today. The first thing I did is press some buttons and instantly the DigitalRev video came to mind. I did chuckle as he is exactly right, feels like there is some sticky fluid under there. However it isn't really a problem, squishy buttons is not a deal breaker for me!

The buttons are a bit non committal compared to my old 450d but like everything you get used to it very quickly!!

Congrats, its a really nice camera. Enjoy it.

I was in the same position a few weeks ago and after being able to test both i went for the 60D being unable to justify the extra £300.The buttons are fine the rotating screen is great because it protects the glass and although the the 7D is better built unless you are going to give it at least a semi pro's workout that makes little difference.I was also told by 2 people who own both that for some reason the 60D handles high ISO noise much better

I have a 60D as backup to my 5D3 and I really rate the 60D very highly. I used to have a 7D and 5D2 combo and would still have if the 7D was as good as I'd hoped. I had focus and exposure problems at times with the 7D but it was a very good camera overall. If the 60D had a few extra focus points though, then for me, it would be the perfect crop. It gives me great IQ, handles noise excellently and has enough fps for what I need.

If my 7D (mine might of had a problem as no other body I've had has done the same) had worked as well as my 60D has then overall I'd take the 7D. But I'd be tempted to wait a couple of months to see what's coming out as the update to the 60D looks as though it could match a 7D.

I wouldn't say it handles noise excellently. One thing I noticed when I upgraded from my 30D to the 60D, was that the noise handling was much worse. I assume this is due to the higher MP count. I've never really researched it, but it definitely has much worse noise handling.

Still, it's a VERY nice camera. The screen has been a major saving point for me on several occasions. Definitely worth a purchase :)
