My 40D has just died on me and Im considering an upgrade and trying to get the 40D repaired as a spare.
I was really looking at the 7D but haven't really spoke to anyone about the 60D
I use my camera mainly for wildlife images and action images of dogs.
Any advice appreciated thanks.

I would say 7D, hands down. the FPS rate is much better, as is the quality.

if you shoot action, then definately the 7d. better focus system and higher FPS!

As above, if you can afford it the 7D is much better than the 60D.

Yup, the 7D.

I own both and the 7D is way better for fast-moving things.

I was having the same debate back in Dec/Jan........ In the end I decided if I went for the 60D I'd always hanker after the superior 7D

Build quality I presume you mean, as image quality is near identical ;)

BTW, the build quality of the 60D is absolutely excellent, it's just not magnesium alloy like the 7D.

After having the 40D I don't think you'd really like the 'feel' of the 60D. I handled one and it wasn't quite solid enough for me.

With some reviewers actually saying that the 60D has better image quality due to better noise performance / less banding.

Personally I think that the articulated screen could swing it for me :)

I got the 60D thinking the articulated screen would be great. I've used it less than I thought so far.

However, I don't regret the decision, the focusing works fine for me and FPS has proved to be enough at some motorsport events so far, so no great desire to have the 7D instead.

7D, my brother has just got one and I have a 40D. If mine broke I'd get one!

The screen is a tool that's there if and when you need it. If you have it you can use it but of course if you haven't, you can't.

Interesting, I've used it far more than I thought I would. Mainly for awkward high up or low down shots in combination with live view. I thought it would be little more than a gimmick but I like it a lot.

I agree about the focussing and FPS - maybe not as fast as a 7D but it's no slouch and plenty fast enough for the occasional bit of motor sport.

Its mainly just the focusing that means I've used it less, seems to take quite a while to get a focus. I think maybe in summer when out on vacation with crowds I might use it some more.

Live View focus is much faster if you set it to Quick Mode, although it's more noisy and you get a short blackout while it works.
