Right guys I'm about to upgrade my cam at the minute I'm running a 400d with a 70-200 f4 and a 17-85. But I'm stuck do I buy a 600d now or wait to next month for a 60d. I can't say I have a particular theme to my shots they range from birds in flight to fishermen fly fishing and some scenery. There isn't any shops anywhere near for a hands on trial so I'm relying on some of your advice help please!!!!

The 600D is very much like a 550D (Which I assume to be similar to your 400D) size wise.
The 60D and 600D both have the benefit of a flip out screen, handy for getting those lower down or higher up angles if you can frame the shot using live view.
Disregarding size and weight, the 60D trumps the 600D in most aspects; Faster max shutter speed, burst rate (max photos per second, 5.3 and 3.7 respectively), and more accurate spot metering to list a few.
This is all info I've gathered from the web. On paper, the 60D is a winner; if you feel the price difference would be worth it, it could be a great upgrade option for you. Bear in mind they both share the same sensor and image processor, so pictures should (theorectically) come out the same!

If you only have to wait 1 more month and can afford it, then I'd say go for the 60D. It's the better camera.
I'm still using my trusty old 350D and have been contemplating an upgrade for the last 2 years. Initially I was going to go for a 550D, then changed my mind to a 600D, then changed again to a 60D. Now I'm wondering if I should just go the whole hog and go for a 7D or even a 5D mkII :bang: I'm in no particular hurry to upgrade and will now probably only do it when the 350 packs up....

I use a 60D as second body shooting festivals and concerts.
Buttons and controls are nicely placed and I don't have any trouble flipping between my 5DII and the 60D.
My impression of the build quality is excellent. If the reviews hadn't pointed out the lack of metal chassis, I'd never have known.
60D has got the same sensor as the 7D, so it's excellent.
Presumably the 600D has the same sensor?

Is there a particular reason you want to upgrade ?
The 60D has a higher fps than the 400 / 600D, a newer sensor and it also has the new tilt / movable LCD.
A friend went through a similar process last year and after a lot of discussion and umming & aahhing, he opted for the 60D, which he loves and is glad he went for it over the 600D.
If you can afford the 60D by waiting a month, then I'd go for it...

It used to be a pretty clear-cut recommendation because the xxD bodies just felt way superior... with the 60D though, Canon introduced the cheap feel of the xxxD series to their supposed semi-pro line. At the same time the xxxD range improved drastically since the 400D.
My 600D feels very different to my friends 400D, and of course, very different to my old 40D. The 60D is somewhere in between. The difference in handling and feel isn't as big as it used to be between for instance the 400D and the 40D.
Spec-wise they're about the same with the differences already pointed out above (mainly higher burst-rate and faster max-shutter speed as well as two dials and slightly larger viewfinder). After all, the sensor and the processor are the same with 60D, 600D, 550D and 7D.
So, it comes down to whether the difference in the price-tag is more important to you than the difference in burst-rate and handling. Personally, I went with the 600D because I actually preferred the smaller body and could do with saving a few quid. I don't miss the burst-rate but I could really use the second dial sometimes.

I went from a 350D to a 50D. The bigger size and the controls layout make a lot of difference. all other differences aside, I find the camera much easier to use. The top LCD display and the rear wheel make checking and changing settings a breeze compared to the rear display and button/wheel toggling of the 350D. The top buttons by the LCD display of the 50D make life much easier too. I'm sure that these benefits will be apparent going from the 400D or 600D to the 60D too.
There are other differences than those pointed out above - for one, the 600D uses a pentamirror viewfinder whereas the 60D uses a pentaprism - much brighter and more coverage.
