60D Batteries

I've just got myself a 60D from these very forums, but it only has the one battery with it. What are my options for extra batteries?

It takes LP-E6 batteries and I know 3rd party ones aren't as good as originals, but I'd like a few extras that don't break the bank.

You can buy a genuine battery - possibly 2nd hand, keep an eye open here.

There are lots of 3rd party batteries about - I have used them and have had no problems, but do tend to stick with a named brand - Hama, Duracell, Energiser etc.

Seem to remember 7 day shop did there own batteries and people on here had used them with no problems...

I bought a DOT.FOTO battery from amazon and have no problems with it .

I've built up a good selection of 3rd party batteries and in my 60D, before I swapped it for my 7D, they all worked perfectly. They also work perfectly in the 7D that I have as well and up to installing the new firmware on my 5D3 they are worked perfectly in that as well. Now I'm having some minor problems with them on the 5D3 saying they aren't recognised. You should be OK with the 60D and 3rd party ones though.

As the 5D3 is my main workhorse I decided to get some Canon originals for it and just use the 3rd party ones in my 7D. I got 5 originals off ebay from a 'very trusted' seller at £30 each so I now have 6 originals and about 8 3rd party ones. I may just list some of the 3rd party ones back on ebay as I've had no problems with them and they are hardly used.

Thanks everyone, I have got a could of 'Stirlingtek' ones for my 400D, wonder if they do 60d ones

Make sure you get the 'decoded' batteries as they should charge properly with the Canon charger. Some wont charge with the Canon charger so you'd need to get an ebay one for around a fiver.

As Frank says below, most of the 3rd party batteries I've had (LP-6 and LP-8 for a 550D/650D) have worked equally as well, if not better, as the Canon originals. It really makes you wonder why Canon batteries are so expensive.

I updated the firmware of my 5D3 recently and it's created some problems with batteries not being recognised so I bought 5 new Canon LP-6 batteries (to give me 3 pairs in a grip) and ended up paying £150 for the 5, which was a very good price reduction for buying them all at once as they were £45 each.

How do you know that?

I use 3rd party batteries from 7-day shop. As long as the camera recognises the chip in the battery they should be just as good, if not better (higher number of mAh), than Canon's.

Well I suppose that's a generalisation against the cheap imports, not the likes of Duracell/Energizer/etc. I'll have a look on 7dayshop but it'll take more into consideration than just mah figures as some can be a bit over inflated.
