600 EX RT Burnt My Jeans......

Bought a new 600, and was sat this evening playing around with it trying to get to grips with the menu etc.
Decided to test the recycle time on full power, and as the other members of the household have little to no patience for anything interesting, I decided to fire it off towards my leg so it did't blind everyone.....

Imagine my surprise when it actually burnt my jeans, I would not have thought it would get that hot

Try doing it with your hand covering the flash lens and give us your thoughts

A lot of people forget how powerful strobe bulbs are

Well I will pass on that, and I'm just glad I wasn't doing amy porn macro shots

Seriously though, there is some real heat generated very close to the face of the flash, it's a wonder that gels don't wrinkle up...

Light passes through the gel. I've used black paper to block flash in the past, and that gets a bit singed.
