Well had an email from Phase One back at the beginning of the month. The P21+ back, 645 Camera System, 80mm Lens and Capture One software

all for the tiny special offer price of £7,995 PLUS VAT. Hate to think how much the P65 back would add
 
I'm not absolutely certain that there is any need for such an high pixel count, even with such a large sensor. More pixels than really necessary is just a formula for more unwanted noise!
 
Do they do a 1000mb memory card yet lol-*** your gonna need it why did it bleep me out I only wrote the shorter version of because lol
 
I suspect the problem with this monster would be how to store the enormous RAW files it would produce. A quick back-of-an-envelope estimate - 60mb per shot :eek:

I can see the manufacturer providing a portable hard disk unit as an accessory :D

I presume that's for really big prints of big prints that should look good from a distance closer than the usual viewing distance.
That or marketing. ;)
 
Uncompressed, it will produce a RAW file of 121Mb I guess. 2Mb per Mp is what you get with a 16bit camera. I'm sure there will be a compressed RAW option and since it's not exactly a spray and prey camera, 4, 8 or 16Gb cards will be fine I'm sure.

Why do we need such a great big beastie, you got me but I'm sure the quality will be great at the lower ISO settings. I've yet to see a digiback file that looks good from 800 and 400 can be very questionable on many models.

Certainly for my use, 28Mp and full frame would be about the optimum.

1Gb cards have been around for a while ;P.

I was actually quite interested in getting a digital back for a MF camera I have, but jebus it was 6k plus. Would imagine the P65+ will be re-mortgage territory :naughty:. 12.5 stops though, sexy.
