Since there doesn't seem to be a thread yet!!!

Good result for Italy earlier and a squeaky bum win for England. Have to say that I preferred the close match to the Italy Wales tie, probably because it was so close but also because (AFAIK!) I don't have Welsh or Italian blood in living memory.

I don't think England won the match, France lost it! And what happened to Marcus's kicking?

Ireland today, can't wait.

England seemed to be trying to lose it at times with all the missed points from kicks.

Yup, could be a good'un later.

One of France’s tries contained 2 forward passes. Anyway, pleased to see a win at last.

Wales are hard to watch at the moment but I do think there is promise. They were completely disjointed yesterday, seemed to have no on field leadership, it almost seemed like they couldn't wait to pass the ball as they had no idea what to do with it in hand. Where was the urgency that Wales showed in the last 7 minutes for the previous 73 minutes? Anyway, a well deserved win for Italy.

I enjoyed the England-France game, much more entertaining, although I was rooting for France.

Should be a good game today and as a Welshman living in Scotland, I'll be shouting for Scotland but I think Ireland are just too good at the moment.

England France game was much better game to watch yesterday but as a Welshman think I will ask the mods to delete this thread and all future rugby posts for the next couple of years.

Gone (for the time being) are the days of such greats as the Brothers Williams! At least back then Italy couldn't have beaten Wales - it was the 5 Nations not 6!!!

that JPR and JJ weren't really brothers.

Back to BKT rugby on Friday night, thank goodness I don’t have watch another Scotland game this weekend.

Yes, and halfway through the tournament too!!

Think he may been pushed? Rather than jumping by himself.

Aye, Scotland are playing well and whilst I do feel there were a few iffy ref decisions in the Ireland game, I don't think it would have changed the outcome, Ireland are just too good.

The 'greatest sporting family in history', the Williams brothers hail from the village I live in, Taff's Well. Of the 8 brothers ( who all played for Cardiff RFC ) there is just one surviving member - ,Cenydd.

At least Wales have a 10 playing at 10 this weekend, I honestly can't see us being within 20 points of Ireland, even with the changes Ireland have been forced to make. Although the Calcutta cup has to be the game to watch this weekend, England by 15 for me.

Fingers crossed!!!

That was definitely a case of a poor Ireland performance Vs a decent Wales performance, we'll take the win obviously but it certainly wasn't pretty

For a while thought Wales were going to do it, ah well next year, ok, now, give the baw tae Duhan.

Ireland got reffed for a change.

Holy crap, blood pressure bouncing already.

I rarely say this for rugby, but that ref is bloody awful.

Seems word got onto the pitch that if we beat England 5 times on the trot we got to keep them, so Finn kicked just wide.;)

Late to this weekend's party but that was encouraging from Wales, When they went over for their first try, I almost hit the ceiling.

Scotland were robbed IMO.

Scotland were robbed IMO.
If their kicker had kicked the points available to him they would have easily won but he missed and they didn't. How were they robbed? I heard that some of the Scottish players moaned about the referee after the match but I do not think their complaints were valid. In any case, I thought England were treated to several very poor decision in their Ireland match which was also very close. You just have to accept the result.

The try was controversial. You can see the Scottish player's hand under the ball, yet the ref is prematurely declaring it a try. Further viewing of the footage never shows the ball touching down. I remember at the time thinking that it would go to some intense video replay, but instead they moved on very quickly from it.

I saw the same video and saw that the ball was grounded just before the defender slid his hand under the ball.

I find the fuss about grounding the ball rather silly and wish the RFU would change the rules to be similar to american football; the attacker just has to cross the line in control of the ball. There would still be some controversial areas but the game would move on more quickly.

I do accept the result, I still think they were robbed.

An England try was clearly held up.

Russell was moved 2 metres to his left on the last conversion, changing the angle, he missed by inches as a result. Nothing said about Etoje clearly distracting Russell just before the kick.

Anyway, I'm not going to split hairs, the result is the result, end of. I won't lose sleep over it as it was a good game of rugby, despite the appauling referee.

I have just run it through again and the ball is grounded for about Half a second just before a Scottish hand slips under the ball. The referee was ideally positioned to see this. At least one of the moaning Scottish players implied that the referee was favouring England though hard to believe that a French referee would do this.

Look at the screenshot.

Look at the screenshot.
You need to see the video just before the screenshot and from the angle of the referee who clearly saw the same as I did. I know that it is possible for referees to make mistakes but hopefully if they are all unbiased they will average out over time.

I did, that's where I took the screenshot from. The split second before this screenshot the referee could not see because a Scottish player was in the way. My issue was how quickly any doubt was brushed aside and the lack of proper scrutiny for such a close call. It didn't help that it was ITV rather than BBC, because I find the latter has far better video coverage.

All things aside, it was a pretty intense game.

Some good rugby today................ although Scotland did their best to lose that.

The problem for me is though, why can't/don't Wales play like that for at least one half of the game, rather than the last 1/4 of the game?

I think they've forgotten how and need an hour or so to be reminded...

England's defence took a while to wake up this afternoon too!

Didn’t Italy play well though?

They're maturing well as a rugby playing nation. Not sure how much of a domestic scene there is there.

I'm actually lost for words, what was that I just watched?

All credit to England, they punished Wales, absolutely ruthless ............... and that's from a Welshman.

Italy came uncomfortably close to upsetting Ireland! Just need Scotland to beat the French now!!!

I originally thought that either France or Ireland would end up top. To be fair, the French were the best team overall. I think England are happy with second place.
I had the same feeling as Martin Johnson that it was not ideal with Wales loosing by so much. We would like the Welsh to get back to their previous high standard. I am convinced that they brought this on themselves when their club Rugby broke away from playing in the English league. I recall the local rivalry when Gloucester played Llanelli both the Club teams and national teams benefitted. My welsh friend agrees with this.
