Does anyone know if the ground glass focussing screens are all a standard size on 5x4 bodies? I wouldnt mind replacing mine with one of the newer types that offer a better, clearer image. Ive seen one on ebay going for peanuts but its for a different make of body, still a 5x4 though but the photographs make it look like an exact match to my current one. Im sure it will fit in the slot, im just wondering if it will still give an accurate focus image, maybe thicknesses of glass play a part?

The glass thickness is not relevant to the focusing accuracy as the ground surface is always towards the lens and it is this surface it sits on in its frame. The outer dimensions do vary a bit depending on the camera though.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but is it possible to get a split screen focusing centre for a 5x4 screen. I've never seen one so assume they can't be made, but was wondering.

It's theoretically possible as it's no different to a screen in an SLR - just bigger.

It will need to be made differently though as it needs a couple of oppositely angled pieces in the central focusing spot.

The two areas are in the same plane as the rest of the screen in the middle but above it, one gets closer to the lens and the other further away and below it, it's the other way round.
