5DMKII Full test Dpreview

Comes out very well - it's hilarious reading the forums over there though, they're still not happy!

Review reflects very well to my opinion on the camera so far. Very glad to get a respectable camera review site to verify that!!

Well, I have to say I've absolutely no regrets at buying one!

Phwoar. I'll take two. No, one. No, I'll wait for the 1Ds MkIV. No I'll get a Leaf digital back and go MF.

Sod it. I'll stick with what I've got and be happy.

What did you 'upgrade' from Ed?

Well I suppose my digital upgrade path was D200 - D3 - 5D -5DMk2

D3 -5D an upgrade? Well maybe not, but for me it was the best choice at the time, found the D3 too big & heavy so changed systems and went with the 5D. If I had known that the D700 was on the way I would have bought that and kept all my Nikon glass which I loved, especially the manual focus lenses.

The "big and heavy" thing is a major factor IMHO.

The D3X is ideal for landscapes for example but on a 15 mile hike the last thing you want is "big and heavy" :bonk::shrug::bonk:

So many of us are waiting for the D700x, same as last time with the D3.

Thing that gets me is this,

Price,

• US: $ 2,699
• EU: € 2,499
• UK: £ 2,299

Now that is interesting.

Why the switch? Were you after something specific that the 5D MkII has that its predecessor didn't, or just fancied a change?

Ha Ha, because I could.

My wife and my mother gave me £500 each for my 50th birthday, I sold my 5D and grip for £850 so it cost me about £130 extra to upgrade.

But, after getting it I realise it is so much better overall than the 5D.

The screen is brilliant, 5D's screen is crap, always hated it even compared to my D200
Live view is amazing and for tabletop stuff indispensible,
AF focussing is slightly better,
Af micro adjust, well all cameras should have this,
Sensor cleaning, not had to retouch a dust bunny out yet.
The quick setting screen function is brilliant
High ISO quality is great
Slightly faster drive, not something that bothers me though

And I have not even tried the video properly yet, okay I shot a 30sec clip just to see if it worked and then deleted it, not for me.

I suspect there are other things I like about it, but those were the things that come immediately to mind.

*happy sigh*

I've got to get my hands on one of these to have a little play. Sounds lovely!
