Greets all,

To be honest there is probably no real point to this thread apart from me sharing my excitement about finally being able to get the wife a nice new 5DII at the end of the month (I will get her hand me down, a 50D).

We have just got our first L glass which was a 24-105 and a 70-200 f4 IS and are now in the position to get the 5D with a budget of £1600. This gives us the option to buy new if we want to. Do we really need this kind of quality? Are we professionals? Of course not, but I'm sure all of you can understand just how excited we are.

The wife is currently doing a two year course in photography (hence the reason she gets the good kit) and I plan on taking my photography to a more serious level upon my return from Afghanistan.
She wants to eventually go into the portrait photography industry so I think the above kit will do that job fine whilst we carry on up the steep learning curve of photography. We started this adventure with kit 1000D's back in December and have been hooked since. Not sure if the bank balance likes it though. A professional I know once said to me "if you are serious about this game then buy the good kit first, you will only keep craving the next upgrade if you don't". From our personal experience, he was right!

So, how many of you can remember when you got your first "dream" bit of kit? Were you like me, a child waiting for Christmas morning? !!

As I said, not really an interesting thread but in the Army I am unable to share my excitement of what photography equipment I am getting next. My mucka's just look at my like I'm a) a freak or b) a geek :)

Regards
Jon

Hi Jon,
you've picked the right place to share your excitement about getting a 5DII.congratulations to you both. One of those is on my wishlist!
My "dream" piece of kit so far is my 70-200 f4 is L lens.I nearly got the non- is but decided to spend a bit more and absolutely love it.

The 5d mkii is a fabulous piece of kit which is ideal as a studio camera for poraiture. I really loved mine for the level of detail it captured.

It also made me a bit lazy when framing as I had so much room to crop.

Hi Liz,

Me too! The 70-200 is a great lens. I too contemplated the non IS but was very chuffed with the IS I ended up getting. Great bit of kit :)

at least with your new purchase you'll be able to take plenty of pics of your herd at 6.3 fps:lol:

it's not quite in the same league, but i just recieved a 5d classic and canon 100/2 this afternoon. both were bought used but it's a hell of an upgrade from my 30d and i was itching to get home from work to play with the new toys :D

best of luck to you and the missus with the new kit and on her career aspirations

Thank you very much. Hope you enjoyed your new toys :)
