Not sure really where to start. Previously owned a 7d & coupled together with the 100-400 was fantastic & never missed focus in a1 servo on all 19 points. Have now changed to a 5D3 & am having problems with it focusing in A1 servo on the very outer focus points. It seems to drag & hunt whereas the 7d locked straight away.
Hoping it is something simple. All help greatly appreciated.

Kind regards, Kevin.

Had the camera not the lens, is the lens sharp in normal use I only ask as if you had a back focus issue when you go to the outer points if not sharp the points are not cross point (I know it's not f2.8 lol) I was thinking as you are full frame the lens is using more of the front glass. The 7D being crop would not at the edges of the focus marks be so near of the actual outer edge of the lens.

The lens is fully micro adjusted to the camera using FoCal. It is still doing it on the outer points after messing around with different settings etc. I will probably have to learn to get used to it.

You mean the centre spot is fully adjusted and everything else may be wildly off...

Hi Kevin, have a look and see what type of sensor the points you are having problems with are, they are not all cross type l like in the 7D.

It is possible to select "cross type only" in the menus but then you lose the use of some of the points.

And although I don't suspect the 100-400 is one of them but certain lenses have restricted focus points they can use, all in the instructions :)

IIRC the non cross type detect horizontal lines only.

Hi David, Cheers for that. When I select cross type only then it is only the centre 3 vertical rows that show up. I use the outer focus points a lot for composition when shooting fast moving objects so tend to set to show all 61 points.
I used my 70-200 on Friday & this had the very same problem. When set to 70mm it focused straight away, then moved out to 200mm & all was fine. When I tried to focus at 200mm straight away it hunted on the outer points which is strange as they are supposed to be cross type on this lens?? The 100-400 acts in the very same way. Set it to 100mm & it will focus straight away. Start at 400mm then it will hunt.
