As above I was just wondering what's everyone's choice on duel card 5d3 ?
Is it preferable to just use one card either cf or sd or is there a reason to use both at the same time writing JPEG to one and raw to the other ?

I just use a Compact flash. I sold my SD's with my 500d. Its worth having them to back up shots, especially if you do anything important with your camera.

That's answered a question for me too. Having just acquired a 1D Mk IV, it's the first camera I've had with the dual card capability. All my other bodies operate on CF so I have plenty of them and I'll stick to that.

Cheers Brash!!!!

It's well documented that using a SD card along with a fast CF card can impact thre speed of the CF card in the 5DMKIII. The SD card slot has a max write speed much lower than the CF slot, and if writing to both at the same time the CF will slow down to match the SD.
A lot of people don't notice this but it's worth remembering if you do use both.
Having a SD in the slot but not writing to it will not impact performance.

I keep a SD card in the slot as a buffer in case my CF gets full, but I also copy a lot of shots to the SD from the CF card if it starts filling up. You can do this in camera so it can be a handy feature of you have a bit of down time when out and about.

As I don't generally have a need for back up cards normally just CF however if I'm doing something that is particular important write to both card slots or if I know I'm going to be shooting a massive 500+ sequence I'll set up to auto switch cards once the CF is full just to ensure I have not breaks in my sequence

My reasons for defaulting to CF is I prefer the larger card for easy of handling in the dark, I'm less likely to cock up

Both raw to CF and jpeg to SD my main client only wants jpeg but I like to have the flexibility of raw just in case things don't come out as I want.

As above. If its important write to both but the SD is only x177 and writing to both the camera defaults to the slowest. A bit limiting for any action. There is a benefit on the 5D3 in using the very fastest CF cards (160MB/S) if a. you need to squeeze the max number of FPS before slowdown and b. you are preapred to pay the extra.

For most stuff I use CF in the primary, but keep an SD card installed anyway.

Very handy when I'm near the end of my allotted time in the photo pit and also getting low on memory - my camera is set to switch between automatically so I can carry on shooting.

I should probably buy some bigger CF cards (Still using mainly 4gb...)

Yes, sorry didn't pay attention to the 5d3 bit :(
